I have it on good authority that 5.83:1 diff gears are now back in production, but I don't have a release date yet...

Yep, heard this was the case a little while back but until I see them I won't believe it as I got burnt by them a couple of years ago. My fingers are crossed though 'cause then the front 5.83 I have will finally be able to be used.

If you can get em, it may be worth the few extra $$ to get them cryo treated before being shipped.

It's from the horses mouth that they are in production as we speak... they've received too many requests for them to ignore it.
I will be advised just before they go on sale so I can do a release on them... stay tuned
love_mud... what do you mean by 'cryo'd?

Cryogenically treated, makes the metal much tougher.
The 5.83 pinion gear is going to need all the help it can get

Maybe.
The way that cryogenic suppliers report their benefits makes it smell a little like snake oil.
They basically say that they have all these benefits but the benefits can't be measured by "regular" metallurgical means.
Race teams love it because any potential advantage will be exploited, no matter how small, but be careful using the fact that race teams use it to add credibility to the product.
At best, the effect will be very marginal and the science is pretty shaky from a metallurgical standpoint.
(I am in the metallurgical industry and have had cryotreatment suppliers ask us to prove their results. They tend to get a bit narky when you try to explain it can't be measured and might have no discernible effect.)
In any case, it will be HIGHLY dependent on the grade of material, just like heat treatment- you can't apply the same treatment to all grades.
Steve.

The page I chose to explain the benifits was just from a quick "cryogenically treated metal" into google.
I just feel that these gears could benifit from all the help they can get as the pinion will be more akin to a cutting burr than a driveline product.
I recall when these gears very first came onto the market alot of people were burning them as the metal in the gears was made very soft (compared to regular diff gears) to help stop the pinion stripping teeth.

...hence production was ceased until this could be rectified

Yeah... homemade playdoh out of flour and salt... that way you can eat it too
Brenno makes stuff too, but it's 'homomade'

Should do... ask Hekta, he uses them and also has a pool-noodle stinger bar... one of the really heavy duty ones too!
