ok..just bought (6hrs ago) a 92 exceed 2.5 diesel lwb auto.jap import(am in the uk)..

now i have owned a 2.8 and this compared to that is a slug!!it appears to have all the gears, and yet at 80kph with overdrive on its turning over at 3300rpm!!it is reving out at 90-100kph..the over drive seems to drop out at any hint of throttle....

HELP!! have been stung? or is there something i can do??

I just sold yesterday a 2.5 tdi auto LWB. Yes they are gutless, yes they are economical!

Mine had 31 inch tyres on it and I think definately doing under 3000rpm on the road at 100k in 4th gear with the torque converter locked up. With overdrive off it was about 3300 or 3400 but I couldn't be sure.

i hate auto's...

now the torque converter..thats supposed to lock up then?

did i say i hate auto's??

now could that be what is not happening??cos it seems to just rev out and not go any quicker...

re economical!!!ha..15mpg..my v8 rangie gets that..could be down to reving at 4000rpm and going 90kph though!!

So why the hell did you buy an auto then? :?:

Somthing is not right then. I doubt you could get it to so 15mpg no matter how hard you tried.

It sounds like it is not shifting through 4 'gears' and then dropping a further 200 -300 rpm as it locks up.

put it in drive and drive off on moderate throttle. Should change up at about 2500rpm (depending on how much throttle you have) and it is easy to count the changes. The O/D button on the side of the gearlever should be in when you do this and no light on the dash.

I'm suspecting a torque converter problem.

Sounds like you are stuck in third ?

We have a 91 2.5TD auto LWB, the wife uses it for the school run, its probably the most economical one we have ever owned, it gets around 22mpg (10l/100K)

Try driving a 3.0V6 on 33's, we get 9mpg (25 liters/100k) fair bit of offroading in that figure though
