Hi folks, just joined up and ploughing through 60 odd pages of brilliant info.
I'll put a noob intro post up somewhere but in short im a scottish expat in dubai who just rolled and wrecked his Pajero (long story dont ask) and is now looking to return to the daihatsu fold (used to have a taft).
Rockys and Ferozas are quite common out here but are massively underpowered for the type of sand driving we do, think 300m high dunes.
so im looking at a 3rzfe swap from a hilux, whilst out engine shopping i was offered a toyota 3s-ge Beams engine, does anyone know or has heard of this as a swap? is it even possible etc?

From memory that was a 2.7 litre EFI Hilux engine (four cylinder).
The 3S-GE possibly wouldn't have the torque increase (or curve) you'd need / want for the money involved? Perhaps try to source the 2.7 litre engine instead- it was designed with utes / 4WD's in mind.
You'd want to changed your gearbox and transfer case if it was a Feroza too- they aren't the strongest thing to start with.
The current model Hilux 2.7 is called a 2TR–FE and has 118kW @ 5200 RPM and 241Nm @ 3800 RPM. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_TR_engine

Murcod you mention that the Ferozas gearbox isnt that strong, how about the rockys?
We get a weird rocky here the F93LG-MMDS comes with a toyota 4Y 2.2ltr petrol engine as standard , IFS and coils rear, solid roof SWB. I cant find it mentioned on any forums anywhere but I'm thinking it would make an easier swap for a toyota engine as it already has one as standard.
Has anyone heard of this model code before?

The easiest swap IMHO would be grafting in a whole Toyota engine / gearbox/ transfer case. That way you don't have to worry about custom bellhousings, whether the gearbox can handle the torque etc. Then you could look at fitting the Toyota diffs ... hmmm.... you should just buy a SWB Toyota!

Thx again, diesels not very common out here or it would be an option, its more expensive by a long way than petrol and petrol is cheaper than water( petrol is about .10 cents US per liter !!!) The other problem we have here is legal, to do a swap it must be the same number of cylinders and same fuel as the original which limits the options otherwise a V8 would be shoehorned in whatever it took
