hey
looking at putting 1.3nt diffs in place of my 1L diffs.
just a few questions.
can i use centre out of 1L diff in 1.3. or can i take ring and pinion out and swap just the gears?
will every thing line up the same?(suspention wise)
can i take 1L diff flanges and put them on 1.3L so i can keep custom shafts?
can i put my heat treated cv out of the 1l diff in the 1.3?
has any one done ths and is it worth my wile.
im runnin twin t cases and 36s welded front and rear and dont like the look of the 1L diffs(strenth wise)
any help much appreciated.
thanx
mick

1L to 1.3 diff help.

as for swapping the diffs yes they are almost a bolt on job the only differance is the diff flange but all i did was drill new holes in the 1.3 flange other than that its a bolt up job

Its not a hard job and you will gain stronger axles and possibly bigger brakes ( never compared them ) the only down side I see is you would drop from 4.8 diffs to 3.9. If you need the gearing you could go 4.6 vit centres but this adds $$ to it. Not sure what kind of driving you do but with 36s unless you already have the stuff so its only time to do it you might be better off going bigger than zook diffs.
If it were me knowing what I do now and had to put $ towards it I would go lux or bigger so you only spend once. Then again Im a tight ass so if I had 1300 stuff laying around I would try that first.

BigMick,
I don't think I would do it.
I have a 1.0 at the moment and have spent a fair amount of time comparing the two.
Rear axles have the same spline so there is no gain there.
1.3 CV's are a straight swap in the front, and are bigger
You will loose diff ratio unless you swap to vitara gears adding to the cost, in any case, CW&P failure doesn't seem to be the biggest sierra problem unless the crush sleeve collapses, which will afflict the 1.3's just the same.
Advantages of 1.3 NTs
Front and rear CW&P's are the same and the centres can be effectively swapped too, but this is unimportant unless you are going to a lockright in the front (need a 4 spider gear centre) or double toughs, which don't apply to NT's unless you have new inner axles made.
Stronger axletubes - all the 1.0 rear axles I have seen have been cracked around the Ubolts, especially in LWB's as they are heavier
bigger, self adjusting rear brakes
Personally, I wouldn't do it. If you have 1.3 CV's in yours, by the time you break anything you would have also broken a 1.3 NT.
On my car I will run the 1.0's until I complete my big axles. Except for width and steering lock I don't have a problem with the 1.0's.
