hey all,

well it's getting close to engine swap time. i've been scrolling through a few old threads on the subject looking for any suppliers of applause swaps, but haven't seen too many mentioned. can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier or 2 that i can ring? i'm in sydney.

also, does anyone know the correct model applause engine, re. bolt patterns etc, that would fit my 93 SXll ??

finally, can anyone reccommend a mechanic etc, who would be capable of doing the work?

not after much am i

thaks heaps

Give Ichiban (sp?) in Sydney a call. They should be able to advise re the bolt pattern too.

any HD engine will do.... NOT HC as they are 1.3 ltr

From your old engine you will need.

pulleys ( Applauses use 2 x Polly Vee... )
Block water inlet and outlet
Sump and pickup
inlet and exhaust manifolds complete ( DONT USE APPLAUSE INTAKE )
Flywheel and clutch
Aircon stuff / altenator / powersteer
Engine mounts
Temp senders - ( hav'nt use Applause ones but could be fine )
Dipstick tube and dipstick
Distributor ( depends on Applause model - so use Feroza )
Flywheel to crank bolts if Appluase is an auto ( manual - longer ? )
Altenator mount ( depends on Appluase )

Apart form the camshaft the engine cores are the same so wll all
bolt up with little pain.

Prices - Applause from "self serve" wrecker $120 but you have to
find / select / remove - or pay to have removed ($150)

From wrecker $1000 seems common

A common source of newer engines - its not really a conversion !

Make sure you tell anybody you call that you're after an Applause motor. I found that most of the people I called instantly replied "no" when I mentioned Feroza, but changed tack when I said Applause.

Some Ferozas use a V pulley - eg. mine! :D

What's the difference with the distributor? IMHO you should try to stick with the Applause one because the advance curve is different and matches the different cam.

Check carefully what the warranty covers..... it might be worthless...

I kept the Applause dizzy on my new motor. Only time she's pinged was a 45 deg day with really cr@p fuel.... no premium available where i filled up.

The old motor pinged on even mildly warm days with premium fuel.

Some Applauases had distributors with electronic timing control via
another seperate ECU so this comment was just to be safe.

There are also timing differences between some models - effects
vary deping mostly on RPM. With 31's a selected Applause disy was better
than stock - less ping.

As for pulleys - mine has a combination of a V for altenator & water pump
pollyvee for powersteering.

The Applauses that I have seen are dual pollyvee and have
different pulley ratios so they might undercool / undercharge if you
do lots of low speed work - ie they are optimised for road use.

Hmmm... a seperate computer for the ignition! Have you got any more details- I'd love to dispose of my "weights, springs and vaccum chambers" distributor.

Mine has the V and flat ribbed belt too. I know some Ferozas have got two ribbed belts (which was what I thought you were referring to.)
