dont know if this has been asked before but how does your insurance provider feel about you going offroad?
if you wreck your 4by whilst offroading on some fire trail, will they pay up?
hill a bit to steep and you roll on your roof...will they pay up or leave you high and dry?
just something i would like a little more info on.

its just a general question. i dont actually have a 4by to insure.
i was just wondering if there are any special clauses in their policies that would deny a claim if you wrecked your 4by while offroading (im not talking about driving down a dirt road either).

pretty good actually. i have dga insurance which covers me for all offroading, have my mods/acessories on the policy too. had a small altercation with a rock, track side etc and they have approved my claim. over $5k of work, and they are allowing me to replace bullbar/steps with ones i have chosen. just gotta wait for it all to happen at the shop now

If you are on a "gazetted road" Which means an identifiable track on a map, you are fine.
Private property can be another thing altogether, but generally, an insurance company will pay.
I know of a company that coughed for a motor rebuild for a drowned hilux motor drowned on private property.

Just my 10 cents worth, as the insurance industry fund my 4wding hobby. With regard to your GIO policy, they might provide cover "Anywhere in Australia" but make sure you take a good look at all of the exclusions under the policy aswell. There might be an exclusion when the vehicle is not on a gazetted road or similar.
As boring as it sounds, the best thing you can do is read your policy wording from from to back and make sure you understand it that way you know exactly what you are covered for. I am sure that about 99% of people don't read the policy wording but are happy to shell out the premium on a forty pages of terms and conditions which are really just promise to indemnify the policy holder in the event that an insured event occurs.
When an event occurs that is not insured under the policy but the policy holder thinks should be insured, who is to blame for not paying the claim? The insurer, or the policy holder because they didn't read their policy wording and have an understanding of what is covered and what is not covered.
Price is not always a determinant of a good quality insurance policy.

AAMI have told me (in writing) that I'm covered everywhere I'm LEGALLY allowed to be. Private property, on the beach, in the dunes, on a trail...anywhere I'm allowed to be. If I'm on private property and I'm not tresspassing I'm covered.

if you are on private property, and make a claim, you can guarantee that they will pass the buck onto the property owner, so make sure you fill out a non-liability form to cover his arse also
