F75 Diesel rocky timing belt

Well I've almost got 200,000k on the Rocky and it's due to have the timing belt replaced. Hard to believe I bought it 10 years ago, only seems like yesterday. That works out to 10,000k per year - I told you I only drive it on Sundays!

Are there any aftermarket brands available for the timing belt or do I have to buy a genuine one from Toyota? I had a search through the forum and not much info on the Diesel timing belts.

I'll give Toyota a call and see how much they want for one and the idler roller etc.

You could try CBC bearings they had a kit when i did mine. I think the belt was about $80 its the idler and tensioner that are expensive.

I got a Dayco timing belt today from my local bearing shop. Luckily I got a trade account with them so for the Dayco belt it cost me $61.00.

Toyota want $384 for the complete kit including the timing belt and 2 idler rollers. I don't know if just the bearings are replaceable in these idler rollers so I'm going to wait until I get it apart before deciding what to do.

Dayco don't do a kit, I haven't checked Bosch yet.

I'm not planning on doing this for couple of months because I want to replace the clutch at the same time. Much easier to replace the timing belt when the motor and gearbox are out of the car.

Anyway I will keep you informed of the progress, especially if just the bearings can be replaced.

I bought a Diahatsu OEM one. It was actually a Gates brand belt in the Diahatsu box. I knew they used this brand from factory however it was cheaper at the time for me to buy the original than go to the parts shop and buy a Gates one directly. Cost $100

If I were you I wouldn't skimp on parts in this area of the motor. If something lets go you may as well kiss your engine goodbye.
I'd replace idlers/tensioners every 200'k. Small price to pay really because you at least know then that it should cause you any drama's latter down the track. To bigger risk.

Good luck with it anyway.

Cheers.

Nah - Bosch only do the belt.
