Is there anything I need to know or just prep it like you normally would.
I can paint but have never painted over gal before, Its only really there for a diferant colour to match the camper and canvas.
Cheers for any help.

Etch first with acid at the very least. A coat of an etch primer would be very advisable too. Untreated galv is not easy to get paint to stick too....

Painting in hammer tone?
I wouldn't bother on a camper.
It's something which is left out to the elements so much that the paint will soon start to flake off and it will look worse than you think it does now.
I made a roof rack for my last 4by and it was all with gal pipe. I used etch primer etc and put the hammer tone on thick and it all peeled off pretty quickly. It looked crap when this happened!
Keep in mind that most camper trailer companies only paint their trailers in hammer tone because it covers all sins and because their trailers aren't gal dipped to begin with. Your lucky to have one with this finish if you didn't intentionally ask for it.
Also, their painted trailers soon start to look ordinary as the stone chips start wearing away the paint and rust sets in.
Just my 2 cents though.
Anthony.

Sand the gal to take shine off etch prime and paint, to easy.
