Okay,
Your final crawl ratio will be:
1st x Low Range x Diffs
= 4.1 x 6.1 x 4.88
= 122:1
So it will definately crawl like mad.
As for highway gearing, I estimate that you will be reving between 4,000 and 5,000rpms to be doing 100kms... (this is based upon what my car does with a cap g'box, 6:1 hopper, 5.12's and 34's, and what droopy pete's does with sierra g'box, 6:1 hopper, 5.12's and 33 claws)...
Something to note is that 33" claws tend to measure quite short and are probably closer to 31" so you will have to measure that to work out your speedo and road speeds.
Cheers

Well, I think it really depends on what RPMs you want to run on the highway, but it seems to me to be a good setup.
Assuming your 33s measure 32.5 (which i think is generous) you'll be spinning a little over 4200RPM at 100kph. Maybe a little on the high side so fuel economy will suffer (will be sh1t anyway) but it's right in the torque range for that engine.
BTW, crawl ratio is about 108:1

Sorry man, I had my bling goggles on for a second and mixed my numbers up - the japanese Jimny with the 660 comes with a 4.1 1st gear...
Alas - but 108:1 is still sweet I'm thinking - particularly with the might of the 1.6 in front of it.

To be honest 108 vs. 122 is SFA difference. I was just being a jackass
Something different...
Mark, go the 35s!!!

35s are only $50 more than 33s but i dont think ill get away with it.....
im looking at a set of 37s second hand for very CHEAP as play tyres......

Fair enough! I think you will be pushing sh1t uphill to be engineered with 33s as road tyres though...

maybe not.........hilux diffs can run up to 32.8(i think)legally so im thinking if i do that and get the tyre placard changed it should be cool.......
if it works
31s are illegel on a spook anyway so i guess ill just get busted either way...

go with a 4.5 ratio diff, cheepest lo-pinon you will find, and you can it is easier to find a matching hy-pinon
have fun trying to find a hy-pinon 4.88

hmmm ok then so can someone work it out using the above ratio.....
thanks bubs,just ruin my plans...

yes mate, 4.5 is less than 4.88 - this means the number will get smaller

by mud4b
that bit i understand.
i know you can get 5.somethings but i heard they are weak......but it is going under a spook....

with 5.29 u will rev your tits off
go with the 4.5
Posted: Tue Dec 16, 2003 4:23 pm
by spazbot
mmm 5.29 hilux diff you move pretty damn slow, i got them in my lux and im really pushing it to get to 110km/h and it makes lots of revs when it gets there
Posted: Tue Dec 16, 2003 4:27 pm
by mud4b
so im thinking with the 4.5s i should be doing less revs on the highway but my crawl ratio will go down....

Just get an engine that doesn't mind reving harder
