I have been offered all the bits out of a smashed auto Holden Cruze. Is this the Suzuki M15 ? Can this motor and auto be fitted to a Sierra without major dramas? Is it a comparable deal to a G16, powerwise?

G series and M series bolt pattern is different as far as I am aware, so you would need an M series jimny manual or auto to make it work.

Is a Jimny auto box different to a Cruze auto box? Why won't the Cruze one work?

The cruze has a transverse engine, it is a 4WD version of an Ignis, so the gearbox is a transaxle as per a FWD car with an output for the tailshaft.

(internally, it may auto might be similar, the jimny auto is really compact)

If you wanted to get all crazy thai outback challenge styley, you could run the whole cruze engine and gearbox as a transverse motor and run the rear output into a transfer case with the centre diff locked up :D but I don't think that's what you had in mind.

OH OK thanks Steve. I never thought about a 4x4 having a transverse engine. Bizzarre! Oh well, I'll keep looking for something to repower Suzi with. 1.3 does an admirable job but........

It's the solid rear diff that looks like it fell off a sierra that makes it confusing.

The AWD transaxle thing is the same as used in lots of AWD cars (evo, magna, gold GTI) and stuff like the RAV 4, CRV etc.

Jimny G13BB is a bolt in, if that helps, but the M series is a nicer motor.

The M13 jimny auto works fine though, I have driven a "collegue of Greg's" with a G13BB and jimny auto and it drives nice on and off road.

A whole wrecked M13 jimny at auction should go for under $3k. if the M13 blows, then you can look at M15 blocks etc.

I think that's what I would be looking for.
