Hey guys,
After the usual noises and crap from the gearbox in my
1989 22R hilux single cab (G52),
I have just swapped in a reco G52 gearbox into my hilux.
I got it of DawgRunner (not used yet) who got it off another forum dude.
The seller said that there was no noises in the box, so that will have to
do me as I do not know a good way to "test" a gearbox out of the car.
Wanting to know what gearbox oil is recommended for the G52 4wd box?
What do you guys use personally to get the most out of these fragile
boxes (this will be my third G52).
Keep in mind I have 35"s Duals and Twin Lockers. And I drive this thing.
I have always used castrol, but I'm gonna change for this box, and see
wether there are any improvements. What are peoples thoughts on
Penrite Gear Oil? Any good? Was thinking of the HYPOID 80W-90 stuff?

What are your thoughts?
Also, are there any additives I can put in the oil aswell??
Cheers,
Bart

Hey mate,
thanks for your reply,
do you use multitrax in both the gearbox and transfer case?
do you use the MBL additive in both gearbox and transfer case?
Whats the reason for the MBL stuff?
Cheers,
Bart

I use in my LN106 '93 Hilux
Gearbox, Transfer and front diff = Castrol EPX 80-90w
Rear Diff = Castrol LSX90
And have yet to add it but will put some MBL8 into front diff, gearbox and transfer this weekend.

Yeah just don't use the mbl on anything with wet clutches for example a LSD diff. i run multitrax in G/box and transfer and then epx 80/90 in diffs as both mine are air lockers

Whats the poop with this MBL8 additive? did a quick search and found some info about it then, what sort of price and where to buy it from?
My G52 is getting notchy when cold into 2nd and 3rd, has got near on 270,000 on it and i wanna try and keep it going aslong as possible, will this additive help with the notchy shifting?

Yes,
indeed what is the poop with this MBL8 additive?
do tell Sic Lux.
Also, how much and where do you get it from?
what improvement did you notice in your G52?
Does it quieten down bearing whine when driving in gear?
Or do all G52s make this noise?
bundy4x4, same questions to you but for your Redline M90.
Cheers,
Bart

had the same problem was a bit hard to get in to gears in the morning when cold and it made it feel alot better and for noise don't know as mine didn't have any noise just was abit hard to change gear when cold and even when hot it still went in easy and the oil you buy it at burson that's where i found it and the hilux 85 model had 360.000 km on it and never changed it i wouldn't go back to any other cheap oil you can go on there web sit and you can see what you need
www.redlineoil.com.au i found it very good going to use redline oil for the diffs was going to use it for the engine but it will come abit to pricey

Modified Toy,
whats your take on why the duragear would be better than the 80/90?
