Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Gday all, A mate is looking at buying a Hilux and we were just after common things to look at in used ones.

Firstly it's a 1999 2.7l Extra cab.

Are there any common problems with these and how easy are they to fix? Are there any common spots for rust ect?
What are these engines like.

Also, roughly what should he look at paying for one?

We're mainly looking for future problems and little things to cut the price down.

Any IFS 4wd i'd be getting the front end checked as idler arms and ball joints seem a fairly common thing that need to be replaced (i do a fair few at work) some aren't bad but unforuntly movement in suspension stuff doesn't get better. Also if the engine bay seems really clean it could have been washed to hide a oil leak or he could just like to look after it and like it that way
