Generator for Mig Welders

Does any body know or could tell me who would know what size
Geni you need to run a 240amp Uni Mig or the like welder as if it were in your workshop as normal..

A 250 amp CIG MIG needs an 11.7Kva geni.
So should be prety close.

Please do ya self a HUGE favor.......
Run a safety cutout powerbox between the genny and the mig
It will save an expensive diode replacement if the genny 's voltage spikes
Been here
paid for that

I got my info direct from Cigweld.
It should apply more or less for the same amperage welder.
I spoze it all depends wether you are going to be running it at full piss or wound down a bit.

Quite big. But you need it for a welder. A lot of welders have this information on their compliance plate.

except I got my info from years of experiance
Much will depend on what amperage you intend to run whilst "out in the field", for example a 6KVA genny will do it if you are planing to run around the 120amp mark, but if you intend to crank up the juice then you will need 10KVA.

a 10KVA unit looks pathetic in comparision.
Once you surpass around the 8KVA size they tend to be "trailer" jobs, below that tho they are one or 2 man lifting jobs into the family sedan boot.
below 2KVA they are a single person lift job and most would fit on the front seat of the work ute.
The boss bought one of them china made GMC units.... 1.2KVA and has a small 2stroke motor powing it ..... it gets pulled up once the 9" grinder gets pluged in but is fine running 2 or 3 tekguns at once, a couple of 750watt drills, or two 4" grinders...... struggles like hell to boil the electric jug but

Why would I ask for info to run a UniMig 240 if I wanted to run only 120amp...
