HZJ105 gearbox swap

I have the HZJ105 with the usual gearbox issues. Jumping out of 5th gear & juddering clutch. If i replace the clutch, does that stop the juddering.
I also have a gearbox and flywheel out of a HDJ80. It looks like it will fit, but are the bellhousing and input splines the same. What about clutch & pressure plate??

yes it will fit but the 105 box has lower ratios better for crawling

The hdj box is a step up....very strong....but you will have hastles fitting it if you dont have the transfer...get ontoouterlimits drivetrain parts for sale as there is one for 175 there......your transfer wont bolt to the 80 box, different input spline count on the transfer.
Now, the input shaft on a hdj80 box is finer spline, you can graft an izuzu plate in to your clutch pressure plate, but they are shitloads of money...400 ish...the other better option in my opinion is to put a hdj clutch in...and remachine your flywheel to suit...they are 12 inch as opposed to 11 inch in the 1hz, so 6 new threaded holes are needed on the flywheel or a t/d flywheel bought with the new clutch. The third option is to get a 1hz 5 speed from an 80, and that bolts straight in...4th option is to get a input shaft to suit 1hz 80 series and fit that to your hdj80 box.
Whichever way you go, the transfer you now have is wanted on here, so resale is not going to be a problem, and the 5 speed you now have are garbage compared to the 80 box, so consdering you have clutch issues, id buy a t/d clutch and machine the flywheel to suit and bolt the 80 box in.

If you want to get rid of the box give me a pm... I've got an 80 transfer case here as well if it's any use to ya.

Dow 50R.
The way I read your reply, is I can use the HDJ80 box, flywheel & clutch/pressure plate assembly. The only change required would be the input shaft out of a std 80s box would require installing. Is this correct. Who out there would do a conversion like this and what $$ am I looking at. I know I still would require the 80s transfer case.

Ive reread your post, and you say you have a flywheel and clutch with the box...if that is correct, it will all bolt straight on with an 80 transfer. You will need to mod the shifter, as they are bent different thats all.
The t/d box from an 80 has a larger spline input. swapping the correct one for your clutch is easy, so is changing clutch plates...as Jimbo mentions, the ratios are not as good, but you will never look back as far as strength goes.
