110 defender flex

hi guys, been reading about these slotted bushes. are you making them for a defender???. also does the rangie spares 30% kit fit a defender
if so can the two be used together?
any one got a suggestion for a suspension setup that gives good flex without a big lift? ( approx 2-3 inches )
got rid of the shitbox lux, got a defender and will never look back!!!

Slotted bushes fit. And I would guess that the 30% kit would also fit (although not sure whats in this kit)
Should be able to use both.

ill look into getting a set. I got your details from another message.
if i fit the bushes will i have to run longer shocks?

You dont have to but you can. At the moment it probably your radius arm bushes that limit your front flex. If you just run the slotted bushes and stock everything else then you will probably find it will be the shocks that limit flex. So then if you run longer shocks you will then get more flex until again its the bushes that limit the flex.

i run sams bushes and 80 series shocks in the front of my defender.
very nice flex. if you use a standard but longer spring it doesn't come loose or bind. the shoch needs to be raised about oneinch or it will bottom out before the bumpstop is reached.
i am very happy with this setup for a daily driver or trip rig.

gday, mod man. wouldnt be able to show us a pic of the flex in your defender? sounds like a good set up.
are these just standard toy 80 series front shocks?
do you run a bullbar on the defender ?" if so how do your springs stand up?
ive got stock springs and a alloy bar and they seemed to have sagged a bit.

sorry no photos yet, hopefully i'll get a camera and learn how to post photos in the new year.
the 80 series shocks are standard length as far as 80series shocks go.
when most brands claim longer travel shocks it is just a longer shaft or body with the same travel.
ie a rangie with a 3"spring lift will probablyonly have 2" downtravel and 6" uptravel. all you would do is hang it off the shocks all the time.the 'longtravel' shock moves the travel down to about midrange. but the shoch will bottom out and may damage itself or the mount.
i would guess most peopledon't realise that problem exists(mallers)

flex with the 80 series shocks is good for radius arms.
the springs i use are kings, yes i havea bullbar and they haven;'t sagged yet. imo all springs will sag eventually when worked.
a lot of guys are running disco rear springs in front. cheap trick and appears to work well with bullbars and winches.
to fully understand what fits, get a tape measure and write down bumpstop clearances jacked up and compressed.
also measure shock length compressed and extended.
80 series toyota fronts appear to be the longest pin to pin shock availablefor a decent price.ridepro's can be bought for $110 each sometimes, they're an decent shock.
sam (mogrover) used to run 14"travel monroe truck shocks in the front, but that requires custom mounts top and bottom.
i'm figuring out how to put these shocks in the back of my defender and still keep decent bush angles.

Modnam,
I had 80 series Landcrusher all round in my Disco. Fronts needed the towers raised about 1/2" as you say, and the rears bolted in upside down. That doesn't worry Bilsteins.
Seems to work quite well as a package.

In the commonly available brands, I've found that Koni twin tube (as opposed to their mono tube gas) dampers tend to be the longest shocks per application, with a better extended to compressed length than Bilstein (thanks to the space taken up by the floating piston). Of course, if you are punishing on long rough roads they will fade a lot sooner than a Bilstein.
Just don't try using Rancho L/C shocks in the rear (inverted) as they don't work, contrary to what a number of fitters (and the importer) used to recommend.
Of course, when they don't work, they can't be returned under warranty as they were used in a 'non standard fitment'.
Ask me how I know.

$220 a pair from bursons (and a mechanic friend with an account.)
eye fitting each end.
i pick them up today!!!
should be valved nice for the heavy arse defender!

How do you get around the eye to eye issue, isnt the rear eye to pin.
