Hi all,

I saw an exhibit at the camping show of this product:

I would like to build my next storage unit, version 2, out of aluminium because my old steel one was a heavy bastard, difficult to remove, and was version 1, and these brazing rods may well be the answer to making it.

Has anyone any experience of these (or similar) brazing rods? I am an amateur welder (arc) and cannot justify a welding setup for aluminium.

thanks

Not as easy as they look to use, i used them to patch some holes in a panel on my rangie ok but also tried on a mates motorbike crankcase which didnt work. Good for patching but not good for cheap ally welding.

Great for thin parts like bodywork but only for patchwork. Structurally very brittle and don't work on older parts that might be oil contaminated, especially castings. Actually works out quite expensive, ends up being cheaper getting the stuff TIG'ed by a shop rather than going through these rods. Anyawy. Over here it works out cheaper.

Alu welding with a proper AC/DC TIG setup is already a fairly intense setup. Material has to be really clean and as hot as possible. Even then it takes skill to do nicely and strong. This stuff is like doll shit.

I trie this stuff and could fill up a hole on a aluminium beer can, but that is all it is good for.
