I wanna put 2 light basic roof racks on my soft top sierra to carry the families swags  . I am sure you can appreciate there is next to no room in a sierra once four people get in  .

I'd like to be able to take the soft top on or off and still be able to use the roof racks  .

I was thinking of mounting one bar on the windscreen, using the screws that are already there :? . I was thinking of mounting a second bar somehow on the factory roll bar without having to adapt the soft top in any way :) .

Any Ideas?
Any pics?
Any advice?
Any one tried this before?

I dunno about the strength of the windscreen surrounds for mounting.. the only strong way to mount it in my opinion is to the chassis like having an exo rollcage. I'm getting the pipe for mine next week cos i'm tired of trying to pack the back with swags and sleeping bags aswell!

I've been trying to carry a canoe on my softop for a while now. The exo seems the only sound way of doing it; i.e. I probably wont be doing it  .

Dad came up with a way, that used an aluminium portal frame at the back (on tail gate with 2 stays), and a piece of wood over the windscreen frame. It worked, but looked bad, and you couldn't close the rear part of the softop. It also ended up cracking dads windscreen when he tried to take the wooden tube off the front (lesson: be patient, and dont do things like this when in a bad mood).

I'm personally looking at a removable hardtop at the moment, so thats my possible solution. Good enough for light stuff anyway.
