60 series lsd and 80 series lsd are both the same hemisphere's. To fit an 80's into a 60's housing you need to have the bearing journells machined down to suit the 60's carrier bearings ( we all knew that I know). BUT !!!
Upon pulling the two centres apart to re-shim and tighten the spring I found the 60 series one had a lot thicker guage spring in it and I mean a lot. The 80 series spring was the same physical size and length but a lot thinner guage spring. When I rang toyota they gave me the same part numbers. anyone else noticed this before??

i hope u didnt go to all the bother of machining the housing, when an 80 bearing is all you need....it was only a dimension change from imperial to metric, and double the price bearings....id say the spring has been swapped earlier for a thicker aftermarket one....spacing it also does wonders, but the more you tension it, the faster it will wear...and it will never lock on ya...

I cross referenced the bearings and they said I couldn't use the 80 series bearing in a 60 series housing. The outer cone diameter is .02mm larger in the 80 bearing. It only cost me $30 to get the machining done and the bearings were only $25 each so not to bad. I don't expect the LSD to lock, I just want it to take a bit more preasure before it slips.dow50r wrote:franko

Thats right, but both std 60 lsd and 80 lsd bearings have thesame od dimension and thickness...only the inner diameter was changed between the models. There is a good side to what you have done...the earlier bearings are off the shelf and $20 opposed to the 80 series specific size bearings at $100 a set

Yep. I back this. I have an 80 series locker with 80 series bearings in a 60 series housing.
