Fixing/replacing GQ door trims?

Hi All,
I have a '91 GQ wagon with electric windows and the front passengers door trim has started to pop out of the door.
The problem is the gromment that rests in the MDF door trim at the uppermost corner which presses through the door trim into the steel of the door has cracked so whenever you pull the door shut the other grommets on the trim pop out of the steel and come away from the door.
Can anyone recommend a way to fix it?
Is it possible to take off the door trim and the hardware attached to it including the velour material?
If it is I will do that and trace out a new template using thin but stonger plywood then re-upholster reassemble and attach to door with screws?
Any better suggestions?
Cheers
