Engine conversion wiring harness's

ok this is just an idea ATM, and to see if there would be much interest to make worth while.
I am considering making up some universal engine wiring harnesses for popular engines. I think there is a market out there for these at a good price, as usually the wiring is the hardest part, or most expensive if you have to pay a sparky $70 plus an hour to do it.
basiclly would consist of a wiring harness for engine and auto trans (if needed) back to ECU, with all extra stuff removed, all relays and fuses mounted in a sealed box to go in engine bay (sealed to keep mud out for reliability,or in the cab possibly, and would have a multi pin connector either in engine bay or under dash on drivers side, for easy connection of ign, pwr, start, tach, fuel pump, etc.
would work on an exchange basis, or you send me your harness i modify it and send it back.
May also consider making a vehicle specific adapter harness for popular vehicles so it could be plug and play. ie hilux, cruiser or patrol.
engines i am thinking at this stage would be.
1uzfe, 1jzgte, 7M, 4age, commodore V6's and V8's inc gen 3, RB30 EFI, infinity V8.
If you can think of anything else let me know.
i am a qualified auto sparky, so these will be made to top quality, and i have done a few of these before.
I am also able to do harnesses for aftermarket ECU systems, or custom jobs that people may need done.
prices will be good as i would be doing this as an after hours job, at i guess would say between $200 - $500 depending on engine and car.
let me know what ya think
cheers

there diffenatly is a market for conversion harness's but the price has to be right as there are a few companies doing them on a one off basis all ready.
I could see the luxus v8 to hilux/4runner being popular.

... all of which kind of illustrates the problem I suspect you'll face, which is that everyone seems to want a one-off job all the time. Not wanting to be discouraging but I think in practice the one-car-at-a-time approach is where the demand will remain for the foreseeable future.

i like the idea of a Gen 3 harness that can be dropped in any car, with the universal plug you speak of.
If you made these up, for gen3, 1uzfe etc etc, then people can just worry about the dash side of it themselves.

yes i realise this would be an issue, and yes i would be able to do one off jobs if anyone wants them done locally.
my idea is making a 100% universal harness to suit the engine, then the guys only need to connect a few wires.
as for the vehicle specific stuff, i would just be selling a seperate harness that would connect the universal engine harness into the car. that would save me making x amount of differnet harnesses for each engine type.
thanks for the input guys, very helpful.
This would be more of a side job for me to raise a bit extra cash to finish me truck, i ain't lookin to make mega bucks so prices will be good.
Also PM me if you have any work done around sunny coast.
cheers

Not trying to cut killalux's lunch but if anyone needs any Auto elec work done around Gippsland, Latrobe Valley in Victoria give me a yell as im an Auto elec to and do a bit of back yard work to pay for my toys... but if you want an engine loom done speak to killalux first!!! unless he doesnt want to do it then give me a yell!
Its a good idea Killalux... the looms, I thought about doing it to a while ago, and doing dual batt systems pre-made vehicle specific sorta thing aswell... basically so people can just plug and play stuff...

A universal harness for all the common engine conversions would be great. There are so many Auto Electricians out there charging way too much money to wire these thiungs up. And if it could be made as simple as plugging in the original wirring points then almost anyone could do it.
Steve have you had anything to do with the new Holden AlloyTech engines yet? I know a place that may be interested in Plug and Play harnesses for these.

i know of one place that charges around the $1200 mark to wire them up.
I think the biggest isuue they would face with the alloy tech would be security, i don't know if anyone would be reprograming them yet or not.
i uess you can run aftermarket, but being drive by wire this would be a major PITA as well.
anyway, if they can bypass security then i do have a wiring diagram at work so i guess i could wire them up.

Ok so i have started a list of what i think are gonna be common harness's.
ok so far i have
ENGINES:
1UZFE
1JZGTE
4AGZE
4AGE
7M
7MGTE
2JZ GE
2JZ GTE
COMMODORE V6, EARLY AND ECOTEC
COMMODORE V8, 5LTR ANG GEN3
FORD V8
ALLOY TEC V6
CARS:
HILUX
PATROL
SIEARA
CRUISER
any more you can think of add them to the list.
my biggest hassle at this stage is gathering up some harness's so that i am able to do it on an exchange basis, if anyone has any harness's let me know.
At this stage i am able to do up your harness's, lookin at round a week or two turn a round.

I think it wont be long and the Alloytech will be the conversion of choice for a lot of vehicles. They are allready cheap. I can buy them localy for $1600 totaly complete less Auto. The Auto can be bought for another $400. Front and rear sumps are available. front is commodore and rear is rodeo. I havent weighed one but apperently they are around 20-30KG lighter than an ecotec. Have between 170KW and 190KW depending on which version you buy.
As for getting rid of the security features im sure it wouldnt be an issue as these have allready been fitted to a Hilux and a Torana that i know of. There is a company in Sydney that is doing custom tunes for the computer so i would imagine they also have the ability to disable the security features.
I was also told that Marks is currently working on a bellhousing to suit the Patrol for this motor.
