A small little question of diff ratios....

Post by gotoy »

My LJ70, or bundy, presently has diff ratios at 4.88 for a 2LT engine. The 1KZ half cut I am installing came with two axles, diff ratios at 5.33.

So the questions are:

1. Should I change the diff ratios?

2. I am concerned about my locker which was bought for the diff ratios at 4.88. Would the locker be ok if I did install the 5.33 ratio diffs.

Sorry, I don't know much about the little trucks, but

1. The 1KZ is a 3 litre, so bigger displacement, more torque which should equal less need to further lower the diff ratios (from a performance prespective anyhow). I'd stick with your current ones.

2. 5.33 ratio sounds wrong to me. 5.29 is a Toyota ratio

Hi and thanks for the reply.

The 1KZ ratios are probably 5.29 as you state.

Anyway, I too was of the opinion staying with the present 4.88 ratios would be better for performance.

I think you will find the ratios on the KZ wont be in the 5s maybe 4.3 but not 5.29 which is the Toyota ratio.

Your car will be ok with 4.8s will give it better punch and when you go bigger tyres it will be ok.

Your locker will be fine
