My downloaded manual says 1.3L but I remember the book at Supercheap saying 1.5. Can someone else confirm? Have you tried tightening the filler plug then attempting to loosen it? It definitely helped me.

Do they have to be filled from the bottom and therefore need an pump to do it, or is there an easier way?
I've only ever changed engine oil before...
Cheers

If you have a steady hand, both can be filled from the shifter hole once the shifters have been removed.
It's much easier than trying to pump it in through the fill plugs, but unless you are very confident with the capacity it is still worth doing with the fill plug removed so you get the level right.
Watch out for gear oil on the carpet though

the smell never comes out.

Mine vinyl too. But gear oil stains anything, its really bad like that (I've smelt of gear oil 2 days after having done a change; yes I showered).

Ok, had a look, and by "shifter hole" what exactly do you mean?
Do you mean:
- take the gear nob off and pour into the hole at the top of the gear stick?
- take the rubber gear surround, nob and stick out and fill it through there?
- or something else?
Thanks

The more you take out, the easier it will be for you. To an extent ayway.
Take the little rubber boot off around the gearstick base, and there should be a couple of screws or bolts holding the stick in with a flat plate. Remove the plate, and the stick should come out too. Takes 2 minutes tops. You probably will then have enough room, consider sticking a clean funnel or something in there to make the job easier, and cleaner.

Cheers highway-star... never done it before so just needed a bit of a walk thru.
Day off tomorrow so will give it a go then!
Also prolly need to do diff oil... anything tricky there or is it just undo both bolts, let it drain, do up bottom bolt, fill from top bolt?

Diffs are easy. Just unscrew the top filler bolt first, that way the draining oil is easily replaced by incoming air.
Hardest bit is getting the oil into the filler plug. I use an old hand oil pump Dads got. He bought it originally to pump 2 stroke oil out of drums into his LJ50.
