5 inch lift for 80?

Hey guy's I own a diesel 80 series with a 3 inch lift with 33 inch tyres and no sway bars,i'm planning on going to a 5 inch lift. I understand how the part time kit works (though i dont yet have it) but my 80 has no problems on or of road at the moment with 3 inches, will an extra 2 inches cause such big problems?
I'd love some insight!

You would be suprised!

You are much better off doing a 2inch body lift on top of your current spring lift.

im at this stage of thinking right now.

used to have what you mentioned 3" spring with 2" body.. but i found it didnt really ever flex that well for what i needed.. yes i do change heaps..

i think a 5" spring lift will work better this time travel wise.. but im also going to get a x link..

i did like the body lift though as it was easier to wash underneith..


just dont know what way to go this time.. so i hope heaps of people answer your original q bud..

if cost isnt an issue then go the 5" lift but if i was you id go a body lift, i got 3" spring and 2" body on mine and it works well

also guys what has the best cross slope stability a 5 inch lift or a 3 inch with 2 inch body blocks?

I have a 5inch lift, running tough dog adjustables and 5deg castor plates, no vibes drives great and been like this for 2 years and no probs, do have part time kit also.

ive got a 80 with 5" dobinson coils, 29" pro comp shocks and superior plates adn panhards, no sway bars

handles great onroad and coulnt be happier off road

unless your having a huge clearnance problem, i wouldnt go a 3" with body lift, as it wont do anyhting offroad wise unless you are getting bigger tyres

heres a flex pic of my 5", pretty standard really, could get alot more if i tied the coils in at the rear with longer shocks, but thats not the kind of flex i want, as it is when im fully flexed i get power to the ground instead of my wheels flopping around everywhere like trucks with huge flex

one thing you can see tho, even with standard toyota bushes in the fornt radius arms, they flex like shit, i would suggest a x-link or similar setup if your serious about getitng power down

as for vibrations, you will notice bad uni's more often, my rear ones are now noticable where they wernt before the lift

try replacing all the rubbers up front just went through all this myself got 7'' coils snake pan hardrods , put factory bushes in the panhards new bushes in the trailing arms and was still there and i don't mean a vibration it would rip the wheel outta ya hands it was dangerous. it come down to a 37'' tyre that wasn't balance properly but iam glad i did all the other as well. used to run a 5'' tough dog lift with 35''s never had a drama . i would try a wheel balance first then do ya bushes if ya do a bit off off road in it or its done a few klm's.

hi bud how does it drive with 37" tyres?

have you changed ratios?

drive as in power loss or how far out the speedo is?

guerd87, how much did those 5inch dobison springs cost you?
Your convincing me to try new 5inch springs because my current 4inch springs that i bought the 4WD with are more like 3inch now and could do with a replacement.
I already have longer shocks, adjustable f&r panhard rods, extended brake lines & caster correction bushes but is there anything else you would recommend considering we both have 80series GXL's except for possible caster plates? How bad is it without a part time kit fitted & what about upper and lower rear control arms because of the tail shaft uni angles?

Nah mate not needed. Ive got a 5 inch lift and the diff has moved forward a bit but not enough to fowl anything on full movement.

I thought with more than 3" adjustable panhards at least are required .. of drop brakets ..
