GQ CV replacing

I'm replacing the front CV (drivers side) today.

Got most of it apart, is there any tricks to separating the CV from the axle? It seems to be attached pretty well.

I also have a swivel seal kit i was going to put in as well as the top and bottom bearings. The kit doesn't come with any extra shims, will i need them? Or can I use the existing ones?

Cheers,
Johnno

Hit it hard with a soft hammer or brass monkey. I have also heard you can use a length of pipe longer than the axle and slam it into the ground to pop it off the axle.

There's a clip retainig the axle inside the cv. Gotta use the technique described by CruiserPatrol. Why are you replacing it? It looks ok from this side!!

Thanks, got it done.

The CV was clicking on the last trip and wanted to replace it at home rather than on the side of a hill with everything covered in mud... ;)

Replaced all of the seals but haven't done the king pin bearings (think that is what it's called). Although I'm not sure if it's necessary at the moment.

Do you need to silicon the hub back on (had been done previously)?
I just wiped a bit of grease on the two faces when i put it back together.
