Winter warmth

Well after last years naracoorte 4x4 challenge my sierra's heater was full of mud.
And since then everytime you put the fan on it would blow out dry mud, the heater didnt work and the controls were all jammed up.
And the air vents were jammed open blowing cool air.
So with all the lovely warm weather weve had lately here in south oz  , i got motivated.
I had read about the heater refresh on izook and thought that looks like a bastard to do, and i didnt want to pull the dash out.
So i read this http://www.izook.com/tech/samurai/body/ ... rclean.htm
And gave this a go, i drilled the hole which chunked a bit because the plastic was so brittle.
I loosened up some of the leaves and mud that had welded them to the heater core with an old tooth brush and then fabbed up a nozzle to the vacuum to suck it all out.
Then i got out my compressor with a blower attachment and gave it a good blow out, then one more vacuum.
Next was trying to free up the controls and flaps in the heater box.
I used the old rp7 with the squirt nozzle and sprayed in behind the dash to hit the linkages, and i sprayed every pivot point and moving part i could find on the heater box.
After that they slowly free'd up and now my heater works.
Yee haw
I patched up the hole with a piece of icecream container, araldited on then siliconed up. i didnt worry about the washer toggle way on izook.

I did the same this arvo!

Although I cut a larger hole cause I couldn't get to the majority of the leaves and just covered it all up with cloth tape. I was a bit disappointed though, it didn't really improve it much (was hoping to get more air up to the windscreen to defog it quicker.

My heater worked really well before it got full of mud, and after the fix today its almost the way it was before.

Out of interest Chops, how much air comes out of the windscreen vents with it on full? I know the Zook one's not too powerful but it's like it's on the lowest setting in another vehicle.

i'd say when its on full, its about 2/3 of what it is out of the foot vents.

i fixed this before it came a problem, i covered the vents on the outside
of the vehicle just infront of the windscreen, no more puddles in the footwell, no more leaves in the blowers and no mud to clog it up. Heater and cooler still work perfectly
