Hi everybody, my name is Craig I'm a newbie here, the deal is a '94 Patrol Cab chassis has been traded at my work and i can pick it up for just under $8K, any suggestions what to look for or common problems and what you think its worth would be really helpfull. here's the details so far. 1994, White with tray back 170,000KM's, 4.2D, 5SPD, slight hail damage & needs a windscreen ,which is nothing really. Stock as a rock from what i have seen, will check it out next week on a hoist at work. 1 owner since new. Its leaf sprung all round though...i was under the impression all GQ's had coil front, any correction and information would be really helpfull.

GQ Leaf utes are all Leaf front and rear. It wasnt to the GU where they had a coil front.
Being a leaf ute it wouldnt be worth anymore than that. Maybe get upto 10g. But a coil cab can be had for 14G. But a coil cab is miles ahead in comfort and handling (worth paying the extra).
The entire drive is pretty strong. Its the same as a coil cab. Which is the same as a wagon.
Try www.gqpatrol.com.au I am sure thats the site. It has a list of things to check for on a patrol. Not all are a problem. Just other a heap of cars these are some of the fualts that where found.

the leaf sprung models had the bigger diffs in the bum... the h260? and gearbox ratio's were different to the leaf to coil trucks.

leafs are poo.

save for a coil cab. one just sold off here for 12k, very neat truck, 240k.

just look harder.

Ill second the wait for a coil cab. My bro in law was going to settle for a leaf sprung GQ ute as a work ditty, about 3 years ago now. I told him not to and really looked around with him..

We managed to find an immaculate 1996 TD42 GQ Coil ute in Inverell w/ 250 county kms on it. We haggled them down to $11k.

I cant get it that link to work guys, thanks for all your advice. thing is my limit is 8K, i was actully going to buy an early 90's Hilux and then this one popped up and thought it seemed liek a good deal, as most of the hiluxes around my price have way to many K's on them, as i wanted someting with under 200,000km's.
any other comments/advice are more than welcome.

Mate 8k is way to much for a leafy ute, i have 2 coil sprung ute both lift and tyres and i would never look at a leafy again, there was one on here awhile back (coily) for like 8k needed a little rust work but complete driver your better off waiting and buying the right var that will retain its money
i found The guys number that was selling the coily ute it is 0413798974 between 8-5

I just paid 10g for a leaf ute at a car yard... overpriced... but i dont regret it.. 8g's sounds good to me.. :)

If you were looking at Hiluxs, you'll find that they're all leaf sprung anyway (and some with torsion bar front, hopeless offroad).

Haha that was a good mate of mine's ute, fair bit of chassis rust in that baby. but yeah , im not to fazed by the leafs because the model Hilux i was loking at were leaf sprung anyway. I do realise that coils give you a more comfortable ride and all, we shall see when this blokes new 4B gets delivered and i get to have a close look at the thing.
