Vac pumps for TD42

I have a 1992 TD42 patrol with the vac pump on the back of the alternator. I find this anoying and the fact that i am getting crap vac out of it has made me want to put the one from the later patrol into my one, the one that i believe goes off the timing gears.
Just wanted to know where they are plumbed into the system, and if i could do it with my setup and what would be involved, if you have any pics can you show us this setup.

Mate has one so i cant take pics till i see him next, pump goes on right hand side of motor below injector pump, the pump line runs under the sump and up the passenger side of the block to the normal mess of plumbing behind the left suspension turret. Im not sure i would need to check but i think he has the inline injection pump. I can check later in the week and get some pics as well if required.
I had low vacum on my normal alternator setup, i found a few minor leaks which fixed 99% of the problems. Also some of the alternators have a larger pulley (i have a spare alt with this) which runs slower and creates a lot less vacum at lower reves. Try putting a smaller pulley on and it makes a huge difference.

is it possible to fit the later model vac pumps on earlier TD42's so its easier to upgrade the alt?

to retro fit is easy but requires the late model timing cover, vac pump goes under the injector pump. to fit the later timing cover you need to remove every thing from the front of the motor

never said it was quick just easy its not like you have to have custom parts made. so it takes a day do you want a engine mounted vac pump? this is what has to be done. personally I run aftermaket alt of a jackaroo 120 amp with vac pump, I have a early gu motor spare tho. any gq td42 post 1994 should have engine vac pump

Do you think this alternator will fit in the original position of the early gq's with a bit of bracket modifieing??
Cheers

I have done 2 of these alts onto 92 mod motors, both are running standard lowwer mounts and you will need to weld a small peice of steel to the bottom of the top alt bracket and redrill the mounting holes 20mm lowwer ie; to holr in between the 2 standard holes and one in the peice of steel welded to the original bracket. You will also need to make a small link bar to go from the adjuster hole in the alt to the adjuster slot in the bracket.
I can email pics uf needed.

we just looked through a catalogue until we found something with a vac pump that looked similar.
