i can make the adaptor for the vit gearbox.

you need a front sump or you need to flip the sump end for end and remake the oil pickup.

custom engine mounts, the motor does sit high so you need to drop it.

I believe that a hybrid trimatic auto can be built out of a vitara auto and a KE70 corolla auto to run a 4AGZE into an auto with a vitara transfer on the back.

Not the last word in auto's but they are strong and there won't be any adapters. (no offence Mud4b - I'm not commenting on your adapter at all)

Personally, I think that motor would drive heaps better offroad with an auto- much easier to modulate the power.

Just my 2C

Steve.

Steve, you don't want KE70 auto as this only fits 3K - 4K - 5K blocks. You want the auto off a 4A out of an AE71 (looks the same as KE70 but has 1.6 insteasd of 1.3).

i have one of these, but you cannot adapt the ae71/vitara parts to fit the vitara t-case bolt on, you will need a adaptor for the tcase.. much easier to fit a vit auto or vit manual with a adaptor straight to the back of the engine.

i have a feeling that since you have the corolla motor in there already the 4AGE/GZE will almost slip in in the same place (dont quote me on this as i am just guessing about it)

Ok there seems to be a little confusion about what fits what here.

The K series engines will bolt to K series gearboxes. The A series engines bolt to T series gearboxes. Of course you have to have the correct bellhousing on these gearboxes. The only exception is the gearbox from an AE70 which is based on the K series gearbox but has an A series engine bellhousing. It is still known as a K50 gearbox. As these gearboxes have the bellhousing incorporated into the housing they cannot be removed and swapped for anything else. They all have cable driven clutches and what I have in my Sierra behind a 100kw 4AGE. They are now as rare as rocking horse s**t as my gearbox is noisy and I cannot find a replacemant. The T series gearbox has a removable bellhousing and is found behind the 4A engine in the AE86 Sprinter. This is the most common gearbox to use behind the 4AG engines. This has a hydraulic clutch. Just be careful as this gearbox was also behind the T ans S series engines and how it originally got its T designation. The bellhousings do not even bolt between these different gearboxes as the housing for the front input bearing is different. I have the T50 gearbox for my other Sierra that will be getting the 4AGZE. They also have the slave cylinder on different sides between ADM and JDM.
I will be able to get some pictures of these differemt gearboxes side by side as I am pulling the noisy K50 gearbox out for repairs.
Another thing of note is that there are also K40 and T40 gearboxes out there, these are 4 speed boxes. Although quite rare they look identical to their 5 speed brothers so be careful what you pay for.

Mud4b - As far as i know all A series engines had a front bowl sump and they cannot simply be turned around. You will need to cut the sump bolt flange off, turn it around and reweld it if you need a rear bowl sump.

man do you know your sh!t.... wealth of info...

as for the sump it can be spun end to end, besides the pickup all you need to do is drill 6 new holes.susses it out while we had the crank out getting it done.

cheers mark.

Thanks Mark, I had often wondered this but never done anything about it. I was thinking of a rear bowl sump on the 4A if I were to push the front diff forward enough for it to foul on the front sump. Might look into it myself one day :)

4A mounts are about 120mm further apart than 3-4-5K. An "A" will fit where a "K" came out (& vica-versa) but will need the mounts moved.. ;)

post hack.
you could just run what i am
4afe (cheeper than a 4age and more low down power)
ae71 auto
short jack shaft in to zook case.
the autos are the same actual auto as xf xd ish falcon (built proof)
and we all know about zook cases!

Break upgrade, what kind of break upgrades are you guys doing to run te 4AGZE in your Vitara's? mine has drums on the back, not sure if that is the norm is an '89 model hence why I ask the question.

My Zook needs some $$$ spent on it sooner rather than later.

Drums are perfictly normal on an 89 Vit as that is what mine has and its an 89 aswell, as for brakes i've heard that LWB Vitaras have bigger vented disks as well as bigger brake pads, some one else my have a better idea

if you use a vitara gearbox do you have to use the 4agze clutch and flywheel

You are correct.
we used the 4a flywheel and pressure plate, but used a vitara clutch plate.
For those who have been asking for a adapter i have lost the template i made and no longer have a block to work off.

cheers mark

cool, so where are you planning on placing the cooler? In front of the radiator or are you making a custom radiator with the intercooler on top?

Realistically Id like to go water/air intercooler, but its quite expensive, fiddly and its hard finding 2nd hand systems from say the Celica GT4 or Liberty GT.

There is alot of room in front of the radiator just gotta cut a little bit out for pipes. Got parts for engine so putting back this weekend building a new sump out of alloy aswell so big end is flipped.
