Your going to have some fun killing off your 2L. I don't think it will last 6 more months with a supercharger. I can't blame you for doing it.
Let us all know how the performance is....I still have a 2L kicking around someplace. Might make me a little project one day.

why would it kill it ?
The SC14 will feed it about 4 ot 5 psi .. so long as fuel is sensible I cannot see an issue (apart from the fab work)

The 2L engine does not have the hardened pistons and other parts for turbos and supercharger's. The engine may last, buts its life will be shortened by the addition of the supercharger. Depends how the owner drives.
The 2LT engine has the hardened pistions etc to handle a turbo/supercharger.
Are you sure the supercharger is onlt 4 to 5psi? I though it was way more than the ct20 turbo unit, more than 8psi.
My opinion, the owner better start planning for an early retirement for the 2L, might be 6 months to 1 yr.

The motor got a full rebuild about 6 months ago and i only want to run low boost(4 to 5 psi) to help it along up hills and when i'm towing.Been tryin to find pics off someone who has done it before so i can get a few ideas but not havin much luck.Have to move the battery but main problem is clearin the inner gaurd but thats easily fixed with a grinder and a welder.Buildin a fj45 with 302 and C4 so the lux just needs to hold together until it's on the road and i'll be happy.

my mates has his 3L supercharged with a sc14 running about 5 pounds
boost, spent months getting it right ,he moved the battery to the other side so it would fit,has 3 inch body lift too, had heaps of issues with aligning it properly, kept throwing belts off , got heaps to hot, now is intercooled and runs alright, but nothing compared to putting a turbo on, so much easier than wasting all the time making brackets, aligning belts, mucking around with pulley sizes for the correct boost, etc etc.
but i'll try and get a picci for you to see how its all done..

Cheers a few pics would be great, what sort of power gain did ya mate get.Was goin to do turbo but could'nt afford it at the moment.Already got the pulley size pretty close and a 3 inch body lift, had the charger layin around off my 18rg so the only cost is fittin it.Just finished modifying my mounts so hopefully it will clear the inner gaurd.

Mounts are done just have to move battery and do the plumbing and its a goer.I'll put some pics on when its all done.

So whats the verdict .. Is it a good mod ?

Still think i'd rather a turbo as it doesn't use engine power it uses exhaust gas which is already being forced out so it'll take less power to turn it so in the end higher output. the only hard bit is finding a good well priced 2nd hand kit

I agree ... but I guess with a S/C you can run an extractor style exhaust to help keep the EGT's a bit more sane as the only restriction getting the spent gases out of the motor is the head itself

Dfently +'s and -'s eaither way like a supercharger doesn't need to spool up boost it starts making it straght up so bit more boost at lower rpm

hey old mate , finally found a pic of my mates 3l supercharged setup, may help you for your plumbing of a cooler if you will be using one , he's also got thermo fans under it , stopped the overheating probs too..
good luck with finishing it off

With the 3l has he put it beside a turbo 3l same diif ratio and tyre size and raced or put it on the dyno to get some numbers to see if it goes better

he is only running about 6psi at the moment, we have only really compared it to my turbo 3l which i am running 10psi, goes pretty good nowhere near as much power up high, due to the low boost, but coz its boosting the whole time got heaps more power down low , dont have to wait till like 1700rpm with the turbo, its good for crawling, but the plans are to boost it a bit more so we will see then whether or not it goes better when thats done

well
here is it
Toyota SC-14 from 1G-GZE engine installed on 3L diesel.
I cut off electric clutch and made simple pulley so charger works all the time.
Otherwise you either have to make a second air line bypass the charger (coz it makes quite significant air resistance when switched off) or switch it off only on idle rpm. 1st case is too complicated 4 me. I've not much space near the engine and it would be a trouble to make all the tubes waterproof. I use this car only offroad and tough offroad
Sometimes very deep water. 2nd case - too small reason for me.
Boost pressure depends on the diameter of the pulley. I don't need a lot of power. I just need the engine to rotate well 35" Simex in deep mud all the time and that's all. 3rd pulley I made was only that I wanted. Frist put low pressure, 2nd too high.
Now it runs about 4 psi at idle RPM and 7psi nearly constant from 1100 to max RPM.
Such a constant pressure is the reason why I don't use boost compensator.
No intercooler needed coase charger heats air not that much as turbo and boost pressure not high.
The belt you choose should be strong enough otherwise it will slip and die
Now I've got 20 000km and about 10 races with charger. Still works.
In comparison with 3L-T (my mate uses turbo out of 2L-T) my diesel is more powerful at low prm nearly the same at middle and weaker at high.
that's all
P.S. I also put blow-off on but it's still just "to be". Never worked yet.
