Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Greetings
Apprentice asked me a question today ,re-gearbox in a 96 lux 2.8D, says it only has a 4 speed in it and 4th is real tall, my reply is that it should have a 5spd, they were 5spd from about 82-83 ish on??,Can Anyone offer some advice/info?? or could an older g/box be fitted..

my lux is a 1996 lux 2.8 d ln106 and its a 5 speed

yeah i'm sure mid 89-on there all 5spd and maybe even some before

October 83 was the release of the ln65 series two shape and with it came the G52 5 speed as far as the books I have show, there is another 5 speed around called L45
