Evening All !!!
Im after some info On V6 Into Hilux. The old 22r died this arvo in a cloud of steam a Im concidering the Commodore Swap. The Luxie is my full time work Vehicle and is used for towing a tool trailer every day.
My main Questions are?
Is the Commodore motor and gearbox (auto) suitable for everyday towing or will it burn out the box (trailer approx 650Kg un braked)?
And what sort of fuel ecconomy are other people getting with this conversion?
Any major teething problems to look out for?

Cheers guys any help would be great!!!

Its its a 4L60E box, 650kgs will be a breeze. (fit a better tranny cooler if you can)
Commodoors are rated to 1900kgs with tranny cooler etc. Yes we know that optimistic but 650kgs is not a lot.

I used to tow a boat often that weighed more on both the 3.8l v6 and the 5.0l v8 engines (v8 did it better, but late model 3.8's are not to bad)

stumpy would you tow 600kg with your surf though? only if you're not in a hurry!!

sass I have a 2L-TE from a 1990 LJ78 front cut in good nick, 78,000km, 100% complete with alll accessories that should bolt in where a 22R was, pm me if interested. not as much power as the commo but diesel efficiency and will be a cheaper swap that the commondoor motor.

My mechanic is trying to talk me into a commodore v6 and auto conversion. He recons it gets 550 km's out of a tank in a 4runner.

After I get crawler gears I am going to go for the v6 but not the auto. May go for a dyna gear box.
