fj40 handbrake

The hand brake in the 40 doesnt work scince of bought it, herd its a pretty common problem anyway when you pull it out it wont click and nothing happens.
any ideas? cheers

Ok what year 40 is it ? I am going to guess that since it don't work you have an early one with the drum on the t-case.
I need more info ..
You say you pull it out so are you taling about an umbrella style dash mount unit from the real early ?
Have you checked the cable ?

gday mate its a 1978 fj40 4 speed
the handbrake is a pullout from below the steering wheel to the left. I havnt checked anything i only got it 2 days ago and pretty unfamilar with it.

Unfortunately the only way its going to get fixed is to get off the computer and take a look at it.
You'll have to first make sure the cable is connected to the lever you are pulling (under the dash). If it is then its time to get your hands dirty and pull the tailshaft off. Remove the handbrake drum from the rear of the transfer case and take a look. Is the cable connected?
Post up your results and then we can help accordingly.
