Fridge Wont Get Cold on 12V

I have a downuder 70L 12/240v FRIDGE. When the car is running (more so while driving) the fridge gets cold. Also on 240 works fine. When left on battery only. Compressor starts then slows and cycles on/off about every 30-40 seconds. I have heavy duty wiring to the fuse box (as recommended by manufacturer) and even if I connect straight to battery still doesn't go properly. It seems that when the cooling fan (next to compressor) starts about 1 second after compressor then the compressor slows. If I disconnect the fan it runs but not as cold. It is a danfoss compressor which has an automatic cutout to save battery. Do I have a faulty battery? No other problems with elec. system. Do I need to rewire or something?

Very confusing

Help appreciated

Hi burtbunch, you could start by checking your battery’s voltage while the fridge is running and the motor is off, also check the voltage at the fridge.

This may give you some indication of a problem.

A fully charged battery, even under load, should have at least 12.5 volts in it after say an hour or so.

If your battery is showing a lower voltage then it may not be holding a charge.

Before you go replacing it, go and get a load test done. This test should be free and it will tell you if the battery is OK or not.

The fact that you are still having problems even when you connect direct to the battery seems to point to the battery BUT only a load test will tell for sure.

Others reader may be able to give you some more ideas so see how you go.

Cheers.
