Outer Limits 4x4 Board

About 60-70kmh my MQ patrol has developed a steering wobble. Most of the time it does it, but sometimes it doesnt, even over the same stretch of road.

Twice this little wobble has developed into a huge wobble which rips the steering wheel out of my hands, causing me to have to brake back to 50kmh and then it stablises and is ok.

I checked everything is tightened under the front and maybe suspect the steering damper is worn but really have no idea..

Any suggestions?

This has been covered many times before so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding info. I fixed this problem by going over everything steering/front suspension related and tightening it all to specs from manual. Not much changed until I did the swivel bearings. Has been good ever since. There were some serious grooves worn in the cups of swivel bearing. This may be your problem but it may be something else. Do a bit of reading of other posts and try a few suggestions.

had same prob with works mq ute turned out to be shakle bushes and one of the front shocks to look at nothing seemed that bad but the wobble put me in the drain on the side of the road once and on the wrong side of the road once before i got it sorted

Based on your symptoms you MAY have the same problem that I had recently. With mine the wobble became so violent it was hard to hold onto the steering wheel. 60 bucks worth of Panhard Rod bushes and an hours work fixed it. Check your Panhard Rod bushes and let us know the results.

I had this problem it was F#$k'in scary tryied every thing Changed shockes, springs all steering component redid bearing preload on swivel bearing and wheel bearings still to no aveil. Front diff Ducked up and i swapped it for a complete unit. Wala Fixed . So i would say that for sure it would be swivel bearings no doubt about it it sound the same as my MK 60 70 If you get passed it would be fine so change those bearing and see how you go keep us all informed.

Can the kingpin bearings on a GQ be changed easily withot having to remove the whole hub? Don't want to have to do the seals if I can help it
