Hi,

Had my radiator hose break from the top of the radiator today. ran dry only for a few minutes, temp guage was on HIGH... fixed the hose later in the day, put water in it, drove for a few miles. Temp guage read high again but still had water in it, remained like that for about 15 minutes, with the temp guage on high, it was also moving up and down, but still said it was high and had water, (no leaks) 1. have I stuffed the temp guage, and or the thermostat? 2. have I done any serious damage in your helpful poinions???? 96 GQ 2.8 TD.

it sounds like u may have cooked it mate and the 2.8's are prone to cracking heads witch is bad news. If you want to check your temperature guage just unplug the wire at the sender unit and earth the wire out, then turn on your ignition and the guage should go all the way up to hot and then come down when u take turn the ignition off.

And do a few basic head checks like check your oil for a milk shake and take the radiator cap off and let the car run for a while and being a diesel it will bubble out of control letting you know that the head gasket is blown.
