Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Over the weekend I fitted vit powersteering to my sierra. The only thing outstanding is the pitman arm. There's been plenty of talk of this on OL in the past. I know my options are a resleeved (taper) tarago pitman or to have my original sierra pitman arm resplined.

I work between Brisbane and the Goldcoast. Can someone please tell me:

1. A workshop where I can get my existing sierra pitman resplined on the southside of Brisbane or northern Goldcoast?

2. Where I can source a tarago pitman and a workshop to have it resleeved to the correct taper?

Also if anyone is interested I have the pattern I used for the adapter plate to mount vit steering box to the existing sierra chassis mount.

why do u want to mod ur pitman arm?, i used the vit pitman arm on my zook, mind u i was also runing histeer.

The vit pitman just hits the chassis rail. Its actually striking on the vit steering stop tab on the arm which I could trim but the stud from the ball joint would hit then anyway.

can you post the pattern up? im looking at power steer for my lwb

I made a new pitman arm. got it bent up from 25mmx 75mm bright bar machined a few holes in it cut the splined end off a standard vit arm then pressed and welded it in. Probly not ideal for a daily driver thoe

It would be much cheaper to get the Tarago Pitman arm sleeved than it would be to have a new spline cut. Think of all the extra work involved in machining a new spline over a simple sleeve.
Source a Tarago Pitman arm and take it to Gardner Engineering in Nerang. They have done a few of these sleeves for me so know what is involved.

calmini in the US have dropped pitman arms for the vitara (sidekick to them) they are a "bolt-on" option.

is it worth buying a calmini pitman arm as i want it to be a daily driver so it has to be able to pass rego

Did you talk to an engineer about what was involved before you fitted the Vitara box to your car?

If not forget it. Most people will see what you have done and say NOPE no rego for you.

these are a one-piece thing. and he is more likely OK it, than a re-splined or modified pitman arm. engineers hate welding or "non-bolt on" stearing mods.

they want $450.00 to pass it in newi seems a lot of money for 10 min work

$450 seems like a good price to me. because your car will be legal, able to be insured, no worries (well... less worries)
it will give you piece of mind, knowing that it will be build in the correct manner, and approved by someone that "knows" what they are doing.
