gearbox problem

so I was wheeling on sunday, got out, drove from Appin to Raby so about 20kays or so, as I was about to turn on to the last street I hear 2 distinc metalic clunks
Stop and check, front shaft is tight, rear shaft is tight, nothing viibly loose anywhere, all looks good.
Pack and head out, hear a clicking noise now, is fine under power, but clicks a little when you back off the throttle
60 kays down the hightway to get home, no noises once I get on the highway, get to about 2 kays from my joint and it pops out of 4th gear when you back off the throttle, the other gears are fine under load or back loads
1 kay away and I go to change gears 2nd to 3rd, wont go in, try 4th and 5th, wont go in
coast to a stop and it goes with some dificulty into 2nd, still cant get higher gears, idle home and park, when stopped can get reverse, 1st and 2nd, no other gears
havnt checked anything this morning, but I am confused, I presume the clunking came from the gearbox, but the clicking stopped and it ran fine, there is no oil leaks or anything
WTF would cause this problem in the box, bearing gone, selector levers in or out of the box, low oil, brocken gear???????????????
help me people

This may not even be related but anyway
Similiar thing happened in my old Hilux (LN106) Turned out I broke the little ball joint thingy off the selector fork inside the bell housing. I was hearing little tings etc for a while then oneday I just had nothing clutch to the floor, couldnt select gears etc.
Actually while writting this it dont sound like your problem, yours jumps out of gear, where mine didnt.Hmm does sound like a bearing has crapped out, maybe even the gears have moves slightly inside the box,and not allowing them to mesh properly, hence the dropping in/out not selecting.

so I drained the box today, not mach oil, and there apears to be some metalic crap in the box, didnt come with the oil, but stick a pinky in the hole and you can feel stuff that shouldnt be there
I am hopeing bearings, time will tell
option if it is stuck is going a t400 or similar, anyone had any eperience with a t400 on the back of a 6.2 chev diesel?

dmcruising : Yeah mine went in peak hour traffic here in Maitland with a trailer on
.Ended up when I pulled up had to start off in 1st off the battery
and drove to the nearest clutch joint to get fixed
Tiny: Only time I`ve had with a T400 was behind my old 355 stroker in a LC
But was a power zapping box.Would of prefered a T350 back then. But I think behind a 6.2 like yours a T400 (maybe even a T700) would be good. Dont the 700`s have like a overdrive, might be alright for highway work if you do much of that.

Boss's mate runs t400 behind his turbo v8 chev desiel and haven't ever herd him say nothing bad about it also think it's had manual valve body fitted.
