Hi all
Trying to decide between the two above tires, what are the pros and cons on each if any. Gonna be mostly used in mud/dirt.

Thanks

can't comment on the claws from experience, but just look at the tread pattern, what do you think will do better in mud :D . My ET's loved the mud. And I wouldn't hesitate to get another set. They wear down like a mongrel on tar though ;)

Claws wont work in mud the way the simexs do! I have mates with Claws on Jeeps, they clog up faster than the simexs.
On road though, the claws are better.

Only my point of view have ran both 35x13.5x15 claws (not radial) they seemed do dig holes faster than pedes and less grip on rocks even when run backwards maybe due to hard compound now run simex 35x12.5x15 great all round tire for clay, mud, sand and rocks but run front tyres backwards for rocks, but now wish I got pedes in 37's ANYONE WANT TO SWAP :D

anyway only my piont of view Im sure others will say different

cheers DAN

I've never seen claws do any good in vic. To be honest I've only ever seen them let people down time and time again once its a bit wet under foot.
The peds will eat them for breaky, but then so would BFG muddies in vicy's muddy conditions.

I'm with you J top.

I wouldnt buy anything else, Bit noisy on road but great ever where else.

Running 15psi they seem to grip better than the guys i go out with ( BFG, Pedes, MTR )

But it comes down to the conditions you drive, Claws work well where I drive.

i hope they are better at keeping shit outa the bead, im thinking of claws for my next set.
im sick of getting shit in the bead on my BFGs :x

Claws don't work in vic generally IMHO. They look cool, they are an interesting alternative to a STT cooper or a BFG muddy if you buy radial, but if you want an off road tyre, there are two options IMHO - 'pede if you are a throttle jockey and want to look like a comp playa, or swampers if you are into noodling around.

I vote swamper over ET, but if you are into throttle and winter driving you could try the ET. Claws just don't compare.

but how quick do the ETs wear compared to the claws?
my GU is a DD so i need them to last but i still want traction when offroad.
mostly mud and rock driving

can you pick up a set of HTs on spare rims for during the week? I'd hate to run ETs on a daily driver....

35" HTs? do they even make them that big? ive heard of all terains but not HTs.

even then i doubt i would be bothered to change them.
i cant even be bothered to take the fridge out after a weekend away

haha didn't even think of size issue! ah well just run the ETs and just deal with changing them more often than regular tyres. Bad thing is your boss will hear you coming to work a mile off if ur late!

Radial Claws rate the same as a normal Mud tyre. The Bias claws dont rate much higher.
If you want a serious tyres. Pedes or Swampers are all there is.

IMO radial claws are 100% better then bias claws, work heaps better but have a softer side wall, for a good all rounder I would look at maxxis trepadore first then radial claw, If you only want to play in clay go simex or silverstone, if they are to be comp tyres only go maxxis creepies.
Sixex and silverstone are bottom seekers so if in mud with no bottom they will keep on diggin

im pretty happy with my radial claws (35"). the have seen heaps of mud/rocks/clay/gravel and seem to work very well in all conditions.

usually run them around 16-18psi and havn had a single drama.

Which swampers are you talking about here?

do you run beadlocks? I'm not sure what pressure I should be running my claws at, they are 33'' radials just got them on 32psi at the moment

cheers

Know of one person that moved from brissy to melbourne, runs claws, was very happy with them up there, now he hates them and I will be surprised if the next time I see him he hasn't changed them.

you don't need bead locks for 16 pound mate :D

I ran my ET's under 5 pound most of the time, without bead locks. A bit scary on side slopes but they gripped like nothing else.

yeh but how much does your rocky weigh compared to a trol or cruiser?

what rim size were u running?

1500 odd kg. Think they were 15x8's. And the tyres where 15x10.5?

At any rate, you should be able to go safely down to 10psi without bead locks i've always though. So long as your not trying to do burnouts

i did run em at 0 once on slippery rock road, but that go scary when I was side on to some slopes   looked like it came very close to popping the bead on video, but they seem to stick to the rim, just my experience with em.

I went from a 34" jungle trekker (similar to the ET) to a 37" bias claw. I didn't expect the claw to impress me much but it has. Better on road (except in the wet  ) and not too bad off it. Better in the dry and loose dirt, and not much worse on wet clay. In real boggy stuff they're not great but do much better than i expected. I seem to be able to get out of ruts easier with the claws too, though this could be alot do with the larger diameter.

Having said that my next set will probably be a swamper (q78 or 38" TSL ?) or 36" pede (or may even try a maxxis). I regularly wheel with people running ET's and they're awesome.

I don't do alot of driving, though i'm always on the lookout for a cheap set of roadies for long hauls. I'd never run a bias tyre (i.e. a 'hardcore' tyre...) if i were commuting on them every day

The claws don't seem to be wearing as quick as the JT's did.

wear would be my main concern considering the amount of road driving i do

Stick with a radial claw, BFG, radial maxxis, cooper etc if that is the case.
