I had this problem few years back with some pro comp shocks turned out to be the wrong size shocks for the lift i had.Ended up ripping the the tops off the towers!I was a little nieve back then and didnt realise till it was to late.Id check with who supplied them before refitting them, sounds like there the wrong size!

Yep, you either have the wrong shocks or too much lift.

yup i thin k your right (about the wrong shocks bit) because my 93 was airbag and got converted to coils it has the forward shock mounting which appear to be around 75 to 80mm higher than the original turret mounts that th older rangies had...oh well

I have a set of turrets and bolt plates but would prefer to keep the forward shock mountings as theres heaps more room in the engine bay..

If you're running the poly bushes, toss 'em and fit rubber. I fitted poly to the bottom mounts and they cracked within 3 months of fitting

I had Ranchos on the same model Rangie, use rubber on all of them.

Hey Luke.

It doesn't matter which way up you fit them, they won't work properly anyhow!!! :P :P (:bad-words: Rancho's :bad-words: )

Yeah! They're great in the mall crawl but fade very fast offroad.
Once they fade they never come back to full original condition and just degrade more and more each time they get hot.

My RS9000s on my Disco faded within 15 minutes offroad doing Ngarkat track...
They didnt impress me at all....

Mates vehicle had the same issue at Zig Zag.. (Blue Mtns)

they will fade as soon as they get any real use.

I've also got a '93 with coil conversion. I too had a bugger of a time getting front shocks for a +2 inch lift. Try front landcruiser shocks, 80 series I think. Don't know if 100 series are the same. Valving was a bit too stiff though (I guess for a heavier front end, or maybe just the brand). Guys rave about pro-comp shocks. Konis if you can afford.

Cheers,
Adam.

i have gone for the +2" 80series fronts I'l see how they go re stiffness.

I haven't tried procomps but have koni's on my xr6t ute and for the $'s im not overly impressed.....opinions on shock and tires are like a$$hole tho.... :D

You can't trust the guys who sell the shocks to you. I was sold a set of lovells springs after a couple of hours fitting them, they were the same height.

How have you adjusted the koni's?

I rate the ones in my rangie quite highly. They've done over 200,000km, I pulled the fronts (twin tube) apart for a revalve and the oil was still bright and clear.

The suspension shop has had a couple of goes at adjusting them to try and reduce some of the axle tramp it suffers occasionally (its trying to put 450hp and 800nm's down through a leaf rear end) dont get me wrong they are streets ahead of stock shocks but i expected them to assist in reducing the axle tramp without making the ride too harsh. Unfortunatly they seem to only be happy doing one or the other...

what are a set of koni's worth for a rangie?

I could pick up a set for $NZ500, I think that's with a decent discount though.
The gas/hydraulics ride better, but the twin tubes are revalvable. I've got twin tubes in the front (with a bloody heavy diesel) and gas/hydraulic in the back.

Sounds like you need some anti-tramp rods. There's only so much shocks can do in that situation.
