Spare Tyre Spacers on GU

Hey

Tried the search but nothing I could see. I want to space out my spare tyre on the mount to give a bit more clearance. I am positive i have seen some type of adaptor but can't remember where.

when I put 285/85/16 on the spare wouldn't mount.the guy at the tyre shop put 3 old wheel nuts behind rim and then tightened up as normal.The spare was then spaced out enough for clearance on the door.I have since spot welded the nuts in place too easy.

Use 25x50 RHS between the door and original bracketand 50mm longer bolts. cheap and easy. or cut some 20mm nylon sanwich cutting board from your kitchen, cut 50mm wide and the same length as the original bracket and drill 2x12mm holes in each one. Both work well.

As you know the MT's are heavy, the bracket is fine with all the weight, but the door suffers a tad, you can feel the weight when you open it, but ive had no troubles with it

thats why i have been putting it off for so long.
ive seen mates with GQs etc... and their doors are all stuffed

It is quite well supported in the closed position.

It may be more of a concern if you did a lot of outback travel and corrugations.

i just used some 40x20 and made a light carrier at the same time to space my wheel off the door.

yeh it hapens on GUs :cry: ive had mine pop out a few times and now if cabletied them in so they cant go anywhere :armsup:

Cut two pices of 30x30 x about 250 RHS and bolt it between the carrier and back door to space it out. just need longer bolts.

Can you space it upwards and to the right as well as out at the same time? This would aid in clearance for the small barn door and the rear bar also when big shoes are fitted...

If you look at my pics you will see its up 35mm and out 50mm, and i run a MT claw 315/75, so you can fit a 35" without moving to the right, and if you move to the right when you open the large door the tyre will hit the tail light

I can't remember which manufacturer (Kaymar or ARB) but I have a spacer bracket in the shed that I used for a bit... Drop me a PM if you're interested.

After doing the Cape though, I ended up going for a whole new rear bar to carry the spare(s). The corrugations just shook the shit out of the whole car (especially the tyre on the rear door).

I'll also have a few other odds and sods in the for sale soon if anyone is interested in some OME Patrol bits - fuel tanks, alloy bar, rear bar etc. - otherwise it's all off to the wreckers, so the price will be CHEAP!

Some of the suggested mods sound good though!
