BIG THUMBS DOWN TO QLD DOT F:bad-words: ers if it could be done legaly then most would probably do it that way but if it can be done it's a huge amount of BS

I have heard of some vehicles getting it done. But I don't know the cars or the people involved. My understanding is any "out there" (by QLD laws) mods require the vehicle to be done as a unique, individually constructed vehicle.
This will require alot of work with a certified engineer/inspector etc. And will cost lots of money. I also believe the vehicle will have to pass modern safety regulations meaning it will have to handle like a modern car, brake like a modern car, has compliant emissions (exhaust and noise), will need relevent safety equipment (maybe airbags?).
Anyway it would be easier and cheaper to buy 2 cars, one a tow vehicle, and the other an unregistered off roader, if you want something that bit more capable.
I'm proud to be a Queenslander, but yep we have the shirtiest, most backward mod laws in the country. If they wanted to crack down, I bet nearly every car owned by someone on this forum could be defected for some BS reason in qld.

mate they are 100% legal. my jimny has over 9k worth coming and it will be registered with coilovers. you are even allowed to have ONLY airbags now - new law. this is 100% fact no bullshite.
1/3rd bumb stop still applies for height
cheers

A pneumatic bumpstop would be measured fully compressed if they were allowed. There should be no reason that they would not be allowed.
If they're not just swap them out of their cradles for solid stops when/if needed. Almost as easy as swapping your 36" tyres for 31's come rego time.

I cannot see any reason coil-overs would not be approved.
Certainly no reason the vehicle would have to be done as an ICV.
yes

putting coilovers in my cj7 my father in laws friend is a dot inspector and hes given the all clear saying that theres no law against them as there classed as a replacement shock and spring just like putting in king springs with koni shocks as replacements for standerd

height and bumpstop rule still applies though :roll:i think your major prob would be keeping your third party insurance if you had accident cause of the mod to car

i dont see a problemm wit it, since rice racers always use them in qld.. but i thought the air bags had to havea standard ride hieght setting to them

I think you will find if they are now legal that you are not allowed to have any manual control over the bags. Including Dump Valves.
