Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I have the opportunity to pick up some very well priced 35" pedes in the 10.5" wide variety.

Has anyone run these on their GQ? Would they recommend these treads for general trail use (play only) mix of rock and all-terrain use. Mud is only something I drive thru to get to the fun stuff...

The Qee is turboed and 4" lifted so tyres are a direct bolt-on.

Have run 315/75 R16 MT/Rs and 36/12.5 swampers on this truck.

Keen for any comments / advice / pics of trucks with these treads on.

If I get them am I best to run them on 8" rims + hilux offset???

His where 15x8 beadlock jobbies... typical sort of yota'ish offset.

You won't need offsets. I run 35x11.5's on 15x8's and have mates who run 35x12.5's without offsets no worries.

There an awesome tyre on all terrains, esp. mud.

my cousin had the same tyre and AS ABOVE - they rocked in all terrain i had the same tyre on my comp hilux (15x8 beadlocked) and will be swapping them onto the new GU also . Very

Bogged if you want a narrow swamper. Q78's work well. I ran BRT's for a snow trip and a day in Gembrook. I was pretty happy with them. They just needed a slightly bigger offset. As they sat abit to far inside the guards. Where as I like the tyre to sit so its just inside the flare. Tyres are great for keeping dirt/rocks of panels.

yea, ws lookin more for a 35inch just for clearance issues, even though most 35's are 36.. would love Q78's even have a shit hot price on some newys...

The excellent price for the 6 x pedes is very hard to knock back plus they are immediately available.

I loved the swampers while I had them but I couldn't justify keeping them given how little I was using them at the time. I believe the pedes will street better (to and from trails) than swampers (plus they will be more legal...).

Based on what the guys have said here and also talking to people offline I have decided to buy these suckers.

I don't think you will find them better on the road. They are way noiser than swampers on the road as far as I have heared.

Unless you are engineered on 35's either tyre is illiegal. There isn't really "more" or "less" legal.... either one could earn you a canary or a notice to fix dependant on the discretion on the cop involved.

Yes I hear you re the legality issue. I aleady have my truck engineered for 315/75 R16s (35s) and given that the 10.5s can be legally run on 8" rims as per Simex literature, I can argue that they are legal on my vehicle + I have my spedo corrected for 35" tyres.

I have not been able to verify whether the Simex are road legal as opposed to Swampers which are not??? Is this the case?

Interesting to note that the Q78s are 20mm taller. I know they are about the same width.

I know that the 36" swampers I used to run were like a low flying Cessna and were also rather skatey in the wet... but running rubber like this is really all about the offroad fun afterall. If I need some good road / offroad rubber for more hardcore trips + rock, I still have the MT/Rs.

I think the reason they are illegal on road is because they are not a speed rated tyre. Nothing to do with o/a dimensions.

I think this is the only option for people who want shit hot road grip, adn shit hot offroad grip... claws, swampers, pedes, boggers the works arent designed for driving on the road, and would never be as good at AT/HT's on the tar.. let the shit fight begin

Swampers are DOT E4 rated which is a US approval for road use (and is a 140km/h speed rating). It does not apply in Australia, so as such, they are not a speed rated tyre and cannot be used on the road on a car manufactured after 1973, when ADR's for tyres were introduced.

JK - watch the wording of your engineers cert though- it will specify a speed and load rating as well as a size. 'pedes may well not meet the speed/load rating specified in the cert. You must also have a new tyre placard with the new size on it.

If the engineer that did your car kept the same speed and load rating as the orginal nissan tyre, you might kinda be snookered if the 'pedes don't match this criteria.

I'm sure you would nevver get a canary, but you might not be insured either.

I have only ever deen aware of one person getting a warning for having swampers on their car, never a canary. I have driven on them for years.

MTR's seem to be great on road from what I have seen/heared, but they just can't get anywhere near a swamper in most off road conditions.

I have been canaried for tyres as have a few of my mates, also a $90 fine n 1 point in qld for no or damaged tyre placard

My comments only hold true for my experience in Vic.

There are no demerits applied to the driver when a canary is applied down here.

If they are that red hot, you better have all your ducks in a row regards tyre placard and speed/load ratings then. My guess is it will make 'pedes dodgy on ratings.

There was/is a grey are in Vic that the tyres on the car either had to match the placard precisely or only had to have the same speed rating as the maximum legal speed (110km/h) I still don't know what the law is on this. I think than in practise down here any rating would do.

PS my 1983 suzuki tray has no tyre placard stock, only pressures on the sticker.

I just checked my placard and I only need an L speed rated tyre!!! (another benefit of owning a DX )

The 35 x 10.5 pedes are 120L rated (L = 120km/h) so I am 100% legal in accordance with my eng cert. They can also be legally run on an 8" wide rim.

My cert specifically allows for a 35" diameter tyre as the spedo has been adjusted accordingly.

My eng didn't say anything about needing a tyre placard in NSW. First I have ever heard of this requirement actually. I have a laminated copy of the cert in my glovebox if needed.

So now I can have some hardcore play rubber that is 100% road legal!!!!
