There has been alot of hetaed discussion about what is and isn't legal on QLD's roads. What I would like to know is what penalties have people actually recieved when pulled over and something is picked up? Are there different consequences from the boys in blue and tansport guys? I like many run risks like bigger tyres, body lift and suspension. Can anyone who has actually had to go through the BU*&^*IT please advise. Thanks

it is the mains roads vehicals inspectors discretion(excuse spelling) whether or not to slap u with a major or minor fine ...

like i had 9 or some thing defects and he gave me a minor fine ... and 28 days to fix it all ...

the dood in the WRX had worn brakes and leakin oil ... or some thing
and he got slapped with a major and car off the road ... cause he had a bad attitude ...

If you have a look at an 'Infringement Notice' you can see (luckly I've got a fresh one here) toward the bottom it mentions the "Transport Operations and Road Use Management Act 1995." This says the use of a modified vehicle with unapproved modification can face a penalty of 60 penality units max. A penalty units equals $100 so max fine would be $6000.

Altering a mod plate is 40 penalty units too.

I'm not 100% sure on the $100 = 1 penalty units so if someone else know for sure please speak up.

Saying that I don't know of anyone who has copped a fine this big.

when i had my ute and got defected, it was a $150 fine and 3 points. wasn't allowed to drive on the road unless it was to a place to fix the defects, or to QT to get it inspected.

i was given the fine by a QT guy who was riding with a coppa in a marked car

I think nos is only illegal if connected up, if the pipes are disconected from the bottle you may be ok. (non-street use) Not sure though !

swaybars
tail lights
number plate light

2 seat conversion ... was a 3 seater ...
body lift

and they want me to put a rear bumper on ... as far as i know utes don't come with a standard bar ... so they aren't getting one

chris got pulled up in my car the other night and all the cop said was "bit of a bush basher" this is with no doors, b-piller, bumper and 80mm body lift.

i think it all just comes down to the person who pulls you up (cop or QT)
and how they feel!

i have heard of people getting put off the road even after being QT approved, because the QT guy was not happy with the car.

yeah QT's are just wankers with attitudes

lucky the guy who did my car liked what he saw ...
but the cop inside chew'd my head off soon as i stepped in the door
but he had no say in what the fine was so all good ... hahahahaha
stoopid motorbike cop ...

Every time my brother gets pulled over by the cops they are just interested in it & start talking about there 4by or there mate 4by & never bother with the Hilux V6 conversion, 33" muds on 10" rims or body lift ect. For some reason they only comment about not having mud flaps & say its illegal.

I like easy going cops! :D

Before i was involved in 4wding as much as i am now i had a Performance Car/Street Racing background.
Years ago defects were $30 and no points. We had a ball. It never bothered you to get done for a defect as no mater how many defects they could find it only cost you $30. Bad part was they could order you for a full inspection which usually ment you were going to be off the road for a little while. But if you had so many mods that it would never pass a full inspection you just de-registered the car, got a dodgy roadworthy and re-registered the car. There was nothing they could do about it.

Then things changed.
Minor Defect=$60 and 1 point. Fix it within 14days.
Major Defect=$140 and 3 points. Present vehicle for full inspection. Usually tow it home.
Prob here was they could get you for $60 for every minor defect they could find but you rarely had to present the vehicle. Allthough they could get you the fine for every minor it still only cost you the one point no matter how many defects they got.

I beleive the laws have changed again now and they are only getting harder. I have never heard of anyone being given more than just defects for the mods on their vehicles unless the mods caused an accident.

As for Nitrous Oxide kits in QLD. You can be fined now for having as little as a bottle bracket in your vehicle. To many guys were running NOS on the street with a line laying in the boot and an empty bottle bracket so the cops would think it was disconected when the bottle was actually laying on the back floor. Now no part of the kit is allowed to be fitted to a vehicle that is driven on the street.

I know of a 360 Chrysler motor fitted to a LH torana that had the entire engine end of kit fitted under the intake manifold and the solinoids mounted behind the flywheel.(punchy knows who i am talking about)

Avgas comes under polution laws and is totaly different.

i got pinged years ago in my 4 door torana...

Now we all know toranas are cop bait.

But this was different.
When it was a 6 cylinder i used to speed all the time and get caught and pay lots of money in fines (novelty wore off after a while)

One morning im going to work, minding my own business.

Heres the scenario.
white 4 door torana hot wire mags no flares
not toooo low and a NOS sticker on the back with half a hornet scoop) with a top alloy plate and a couple of aircleaners hanging out the top (from the tunnel ram and dual 465 holleys on 11 second 308)

This prick (bike cop) pulls me up on the driveway of our work shop
Starts blargin off at the mouth about drawing the line about superchargers and the like starts bullshitting about multiple defects on my vehicle.

I then pointed out to the prick on the front wall of our shop, the numerous amout of DOT approval qualifications we had and that he was talking shit and had no idea what he was raving about.
He did have me on 3 things.2 wheel nuts missing, slightly worn inner tyre edge and possily to low...

So before he started pulling pen to paper, i said fuk off go call in a QUALIFIED DOT vehicle inspector and letsd see who was right.

Like a smug fuk he agreed and then went down the road and parked ina no standing zone while waiting for a dot guy to come.

Dot comes, cop comes back they have a small chin wag and by then the boss has turned up and i have filled him in. He gets pissed off as well at the trivial nature of the situation as well and give said cop a mouth full as well..

I said to dot guy what the go is and i said check it out go for it..
cop starts spreuking shit again, Dot guy shakes his head and says to me what is it.
I said it's a rammed 308, th400 and a bog stock bango diff with a limo center..He smiled, right after the cop started on about superchargers and nitrous again. He looked up and said. Look mate you better stop right htere before you make a fool of yourself more than you already have...

The cop shudup

DOT pinged me for:
worn tyre
bonnet retainer clamps (the protruding r clip types)
to low
and to take of a stoopid bling hang ten accelerator pedal i had on.

He didn't say boo about the filth engine and stuff i had under the bonnet.

DOT 1, cop 0
21 days to fix and present.

I told the cop to piss off and mind his own business, and to get a clue.

Never saw him in that area again...

But this is just one of the many stories i have about me and my fast torana...

heheh

Meeeeeemmoooooooriieeeeeeesssssss

My brother went through a roadside inspection station with his 76 Landrover, they went all over it, didn't bother fining him for a non-working tail light and completely missed the un mod plated Holden 6cyl conversion, mind you it looked like it had been in there since 76 and even was the same engine number as the rego papers, probably been reregistered at some stage with it in there.
