Anybody else broken them?
I finally busted mine on sunday after about 7 years abuse.
Haven't pulled the transfercase apart yet but will over the weekend and post some pics.

This might be the time for me to go cruiser auto and transfer I think

I know of heaps of the early lux rockhoppers busting, but have not heard of any for a few years now .... I guess the 1uz was just a bit much ..

How much screwing about will it be to fit the v8 up to the Crusier auto ? (then I guess you can run the crusier rear to go with the 80 front your planning on)

Yes these were the early gears, was only about 5 sets around when I got mine (well thats what gpr??? told me) and they was something like $1500

As for bolting the auto up? Don't know yet but guess I'll be finding out :D

So i guess this may have been the noise/vibration you were trying to find ages ago?

Actually what makes you think you broke the gears if you havent pulled them out yet?

No the niose was the cardinal joint in the front tail shaft. Put a new (to me) lengthend shaft in ages ago and that fixed that problem.

ummm when you look in threw the inspection plate in the top of the low range section and can see missing teeth its sort of a dead give away :finger:

We put a 4 speed t case in there with swapped output flanges just so we could drive it from where we were. High range wouldn't have cut it with an allready sus clutch as we had huge hills and ruts to get out. Then once at the top unbolted cover (shifter hole) and used screw driver to get 2wd high range. Then bolted cover back on. Yes its a pain in the arse when there is a floor in the way

Ahhh GRP and the memories of broken Rockhoppers.
Most of the really early ones were interferance fit and then welded 2 piece setups .. the welds failed. I know of at least one going within hours of installation. Seems that they have been alot more sucessful than alot of the suzuki rockhoppers though (problems with them lasted for years with teeth falling off gears)

The auto should be interesting as I am still tossing up motor swaps and I would not mind an auto so my wife can have a bit of a drive was well (either on or off road) while she can drive a manual OK I am sure she would be happier with a slush box.

Haven't pulled them out yet so only looking in via the inspection plate hole but it looks as tho its just ripped some teeth off. I'd say they fractured awhile ago as I was only idioling along at the time they let go :bad-words: rather dissapointing to be honest, They could have atleast let go with a BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and gone out in fashon
