Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey All,

My chassis is getting sandblasted next week and will be painting the evening I bring it home.

I have lashed out the dollars for POR15 Rust Preventitive Paint and had originally decided to apply it by brush.

Since then I also have a air compressor and a spray gun and thinking of spraying it on. Question is when spraying how much overspray do you have as I can only chose to spray in my garage complete with other stored $h1t. Most of it doesnt matter but I'm visualing the worst.

Other option is to spray in the driveway but what sort of overspray will go on the house. Is it worth rigging a tarp up to limit overspray ?

Need to sort this quick as all prep or moving of stuff will need doing Sunday and Monday night. What do other people do ?

Mate , I sprayed my chassis on my driveway with gloss black industrial enamel , I just moved my cars away and put plastic down on the ground , It was much better outdoors when spraying black , you could see where the second and third coats while spraying them , the day was still so if your neighbours are fussy , maybe ask them to move there cars if neccesary , I didn,t get any paint on the house , Cheers Paul.

If you are really worried about certain things in the shed, simply cover them over with old sheets or whatever you can find. To limit the amount of overspray that floats around wet the floor of the shed. The overspray will settle on the water, limiting the amount that floats around inside the shed. Then when the floor is dry, simply sweep it out.

Though I would definately wear a facemask to limit fume inhalation, and open a few windows as well.

I must be one of those anal neighbours that doesnt like overspray on his car aswell......

I've never done one outside for the simple reason of airborn rubbish that ends up on the fresh paint ( attracts like a magnet !! )

I've done more than enough cars ( full resprays) in the shed and all I do is hang old bed sheets over everything important and lay down a few tarps (blankets) on the concrete floor.

St Vinnies has all the old sheets and blankets you'll ever need, the blankets work better than them shyte plasticky tarps too !

The overspray will usually cover everything it falls vertically onto so really its just cover from the falling overspray.

As for the area effected, a car placed in the middle of a double car garage will see overspray reach each corner; so ya tarping will need to over all of that area otherwise, you'll end up with a faint blackened floor where you've failed to cover up properly....... I have a red area & a yellow area in my shed, still visiable 5 years later !!!

what the hell did you paint yellow, not one of them pansy ass fj40's ??

Dad sprayed his Lux chassis behind the shed. The shed is green, and the chassis is yellow; and the shed is still green without a trace of yellow. Some of the concrete pavers are a little stained, but not too much. Mind you that was spayed in summer, when paint dries quicker and there is less wind to blow the airborne rubbish V8patrol mentioned.

You could go and buy one of those double car pergola things for a few hundred if you wanted to, theyre a large car tent sorta thing with sides that fold down so youre completely enclosed.
