Hi all, I just wanted to know if the diff ratios are the same and what about the transfer case. I have only just picked up a BJ40 and my Speedo is out. It has 31/10.5/15 tyres on it + what type of speed should I get out of it. The old girl is flat out doing 100kmh on my GPS. Any info would be good.

Don't know what year, might be a '79, full fiberglass body, 4 speed, i think that it is a bitsa.

pretty sure i've got 4.11's in my 1984 bj42..

doing a speedo test with my 33's on i register .9kms per 1km.. so i figure with 32's they should be about right.. and on 31's they'd be a bit more.. not 100% sure though..

Is there any engraving or tags on the diff that tells you the ratio? Or do you have to pull out the center and look at the gearing? I am new to cars, I just ride bikes.

mmm

No marks from factory that I have ever seen, usually just count teeth of spin the drive flange and measure the wheel turn.

4.11 is bound to be your diff ratio, t-case is easy with a search,

the only other factory diff options are 3.7 and 4.10 neither of which you will have in that year model

i've seen a stock HJ45 wind off the speedo.

top speed i've seen in the fj40 was 140 on 33's.

wouldn't want to try it now...

Old boys old shorty I used to use years ago would see $1.50 with 31's, farking hard to keep on the road but ;) must be somewhere around the governor, cause it wouldn't pull any more, 32's killed it and all it would see is 135

Give my RR a squirt the other night, $1.70 for a quick one, but the poor centipedes get a little uncontrollable :?

flat road, no wind, 33's, my "B" can do 130k's by GPS reading (who want to go over 100-110 any ways), my mates 2f 45ser can do 170 easy.....
