im getting a tig soon with my tax back money and i was wondering if i can use my migshield m1 (argon and carbon dioxcide mix) for mild steel? i know that i will need a different argon mix for stainless and alloy. cheers scott

No, pure welding grade Argon only.

thanks, do you know any where around our area that doesnt charge a fortune for bottle rental on a size E, im renting one from a place in carrum downs and it seems to be a rip and the bottles dont seem to be filled up properly (i usualy end up with a steel bottle only half full ). cheers

try gen tech dude, there was a thread recently on welding and gasses

want it filled properly goto BOC or liquidarc.

you should see if you can buy a bottle and simply get it filled up but I think someone on here was saying you can't do that anymore.

Unfortunately bottle rental is a real scam and they have us all by the short & curlies. Try ringing around and compare prices. I'm assuming you are using Air Liquide bottles from Joe and Trevor at Central welding just behind Bursons we use them also. We got a deal from Air Liquide so we get our Argon at a reasonable price, BOC on the other hand cost nearly 80% more for similar sized bottles that's why we changed to Air Liquide.
Can't say I've noticed any 1/2 full bottles they generally last about 14-19 days for me (G size bottle) depending on how much welding I'm doing. If I'm doing a lot of stainless Tig I tend to use more gas as I use a lot more post flow than on Aluminium.
