gq patrol has a 5" allready but it looks shit in the back due to my recent body chop, its now a raked pootrol
im going to be getting a 7 inch lift to suit my body chop and a 2" body lift,
cut the gaurds a bit with the plasma or buy the fiberglass ones to suit the 38's
what else will i need to do, i will get the drop arms to suit the 7" and also the rear arms, also shortly my pootrol is going to be bobtailed

I would have thought you'd be able to clear the 37's just with the 7" lift and a bit of cutting... no body lift. 7" + 2" plus guard cutting & 38's sounds high...

so youve gone the chop, so your not shy with the grinder, why do you need excessivelift, lower the rear or raise the front so its level, chop the gurds and run what ever tyres you wanna run, and enjoy it,
or go your option and be abit higher,

what are you running ozy1 in suspension wise, will things bind and rub and scrub and everything else with small lift and big ass tyres, i know about extending the bumpstops but i dont really wanna do that i dont think
oh yeah not shy, she has the grinder, check it out under "the gutted pootrol" looks shit loads better now that its all chequaplated edges and stuff

pics will be up on that shortly of it done

I run 37" MTRs with OME 5" competition springs + 3" BL (too much but it's already in so...) and some guard cuts.

I also run 37" mtr's on 5" dobinsons springs and shocks. I only needed minimal cutting after a rear quarter chop.
Only touch is at full tilt inner rear.

Thinking about 37's on a gu ute are they that much better then 35's

depends what sort of driving you do really..
why this dude needs a 7in + lift for 37's is amazing. others succeed with a 4/2 or 5n grind

I ran a 7 + 2 lift and have dropped the springs to 4 inch Dobinsons which are really about 5 inches of lift and will soon be taking out the bodylift as well as it WAS way too high. Anyone who says it is not does not push the driving boundaries too far, otherwise you will put it on its side sooner or later. Don't ask me how I know.
For 37 or 38 inch tyres, 5 inches of lift is plenty. Just move the axles 20mm forward and back, trim the guards and bump stop the rear.

so if i keep my 5" and chop gaurds a bit i will be able to run them then..... COOL
cruiserpatrol i wint out on a run with you not long ago, a joint run with brisbane waters 4wd club, i had the black on silver lwb that had the broken hill 4x4 club sticker on it, i got the tire up massive air at lunch time that day

on my ute im running 38'5x16 TSLs, wich measure a bit smaller but they are still a verry wide tyre, considering mine is a ute, i cut a bit out of the front guards,
i am running 6" springs but they look to be about the 5" mark, and the tyres are just touchin near the fire wall on full up travel, im looking at moving the diff forward to get a bit more clearance,
on the rear i have no dramas, if i were you, just cut it till they fit,

Whats the minimum with out a body lift and minimal cutting?? Want to stay low so its still nice to drive for my 80km round trip to work every day. Would of kept the hilux if I wanted to drive a shit box.
Not worried about the back because its a dual cab. Can I just increase the bump stops so there is less chance of rubbing?? Put spacers in the front to move the diff forward?

On the front gaurd I cut 60mm from the front and 60mm from the rear and 15mm from the top of the wheel arch, with a 2" body lift n std coils it still fitted 37" tyres no rubbing, looked tough that low too.

minimum i have seen without body lift was a 4" lift and 37s on a shorty patrol, worked neat too....

I got 35's under a 2" sus, 2" body lifted patrol without any guard chopping, didn't scrub either, not even under flex. 7" sus setup will clear 37's if you space your diffs to original setup

Just my opinion, but I reckon they simply stand out too much to get away with on the road. 33s look virtually stock, 35s you can get away with, 37s or bigger are just cop magnets.
Just something to consider depending on how you use the vehicle.

Wendals??
MyGQ there is no way i'll put a 7 inch lift in any thing. I don't want to go any more than 4 in total. Not to keen on body lifts either.
Might look at a 4 inch kit and some guard trimming.

i was originally going to go 5" lift only but i got talked into a 7" cause it was gunna cost me about $100 more for the shocks and coils, had to get new brake lines which ever way i went, already had adjustable panhard rods so i was in luck
Only problem was at the time that 7" went into my Maverick with a 2" body lift already in it, total of 9", man that thing was tall, thinking of putting in the body lift again to this one, as it was stable as all hell
