UHF getting hot

i have just set up my uniden UHF in my patrol and had it turned on and then i strted to smell something strange and it was the UHF, it was so hot that i could not hold it for long.

What could be the cause for this ????

hope its not r00ted :?

check your wiring first (obviously), also check volts are adequate when the unit is on and transmitting (ie the cable you used may read 12v at no load but may drop under load)
but i would be thinking reversed polarity on the 12 supply.

0k thanks guys i took it to a mate today and he said its stuffed the main board is burnt and cant explain why it did it.

so whats best to get a UNIDEN or a GME my mate said go for a GME but he instals GME all the time and thinks UNIDEN is crap :?

icom, they're designed to get hot hence why they have a heatsink ;)
