Diff ratios for bundera with 35's

i got a petrol bundera, just put 35's on it...wondering what ratio for the bunderas is most popular

are you asking what you should put in there, or what you currently have?

its most likely a 4.3 ratio, might be lucky to have 4.5.. if you're wondering what you should put, the most common swap is to change to 4.88's with the 35"s.. I run 34" JT2's (nearly 35" tall) & run 4.3 ratios, slow as shit, but its ok..

will be doing transfer gears or 4.88's in the new year

if ur still running the 22R it is advised to do something...

i am running 33's on 4.3 ratio diffs and the 22R... Motor is deteriorating so am going to do an engine swap to a 2.8 turbo deisel then go to 35's.

Go to 4.88's if u wanna keep the petrol for a while.

I have had 35's on my 22R bundera for 15 years or so,
go the 4.8s and forget about 5th gear, mine go's like the clappers, I never put a spanner on it, it just keeps on going, I am very happy.

i had 22R with 4.88 and 35's no probs, but i don't c the need to go to all that work to change them. OK its slower on take off with 4.3's or 4.5's but who cares, use what u got and spend the money on a locker!

high pinion 4.88 gear set $800+
rear diff $250ish
air lockers $1100 x2
air compressor $300
fitting lockers and new diff gears/bearings $250+ x2
total over $4000

Or u can buy my pair of 4.8s complete with air lockers $3000, front is high pinion. Ready to bolt straight in..........

mine goes ok with 35's and factory 4.88's, (turbo diesel), it's a bit of a dog on takeoff but bearable as long as you're not in a tyre shredding hurry.


the motor to upgrade to is the 1KZ-T(E), lighter and more powerful than the 13B-T and will bolt to the existing transmission and engine mounts, the 13B-T will not.

is that $3k for complete axles of just for the centres? it's too much for just centres, lockers second hand are only worth $800 - $900 each (depending on perceived condition, and if you're including switches, solenoids, air fittings etc), the stocker 4.88 diffs are worth around $300 - $450 each from wreckers including the front open centre or the rear LSD, absolute max you coudl reasonably ask for just the pair of diffs is around $2700 and a reasonable price is around the $2200 - $2500 range.

$3k for complete locked axles is an ok price.

do you already have a locker in the rear? even if you have the LSD in the back there is far more to be gained from locking the rear over the front. this may well start a flame war but you're I've tried it on any number of obstacles - open, locked front, or locked rear, and the rear locker wins 9/10 times.

the 80 series front uses the big bearing RD23 air locker, the bundera uses the smaller bearing RD01, you can set it up with the RD23, I think you might need an 80 series housing, but the RD01 is plenty strong enough.

the later bundy rear uses the RD23.

i don't really want to sell my diffs but if anyone is prepared to pay then i will sell them...... I know what they r worth and how much time and stuffing around it would save to buy complete diffs........
